View Full Version : Any reason this bolt should be almost off?

Did my trans filter today too - while under there I noticed one of the bolts appears to be for the started was a good inch out of it's hole and loose.

I'm going to tigthen it.

I never removed it, nor worked on anything in that vicinity, and no recent shop work I've had done has required that be off.

Anyone else seen this?

I know bolts can come loose but in all my knowledge the starter was never removed therefore this should be an OEM-factory tightened bolt.

That is not a starter bolt, they all come from the other side. That is one of the bell-housing bolts.

Anything is possible from the factory. Tighten it up and be done with it.

Yes, but not in snow...however I'm living on dirt road now and been really suffering with the rain - I have about 2/10th of a mile of mud now. :(

the rust appears to be even all the way down the bolt, I would agree with this statement

His is great compared to mine after daily driving 4 years in the snowbelt  even with having her undercoated. My Dad worked many years for Ford, some of the stories he told about what he found wrong with new cars straight from the factory... makes ya wonder. I would not be surprised at all if that bolt was loose from the factory.

I purchased a new Bronco II in 1988. Everytime I did serious off roading and really had the suspension bouncing it made a real strange squeking sound. After 5K miles I finally figured out it was a bolt being sandwhiced between the Twin I-Beam Suspension. It had left the factory that way. I'm sure someone dropped the bolt on the line and it was too hard to remove or they did not see it.
