Kinda of a stupid question but I can't come to a logical conclusion... I need to do a tranny flush and replace the filter. SO, what do I do first? If I flush the system with new fluid first, I'm running all that new fluid threw a dirty filter.

BUT

if I change the filter first, then flush, I'm running all that **** fluid threw my new clean filter??? AArrgg....

Owww BTW, how much oil for a full flush of the system? Thanks guys...

Its a big debate that leads nowhere.
You can get 50k out of a filter IMHO if the trans is not shedding metal, maybe more.

Flip a coin on what you do.

I'd flush first, then filter, then repeat a month later...lol

Under normal use. transmission filters don't get "dirty" like motor oil filters, so unless your ATF is really filthy and contaminated, it doesn't matter. Like Zack said, flip a coin.

Filter. When you pull the pan to replace the filter, all the fluid in the pan will be dumped out. Then you'll have to refill so the pump can have some fluid to pull thru the new filter.

Drop the pan, clean it, new filter - then go get it flushed. You "loose" a whopping 5 quarts.
