Hi. I'm looking to improve the way my 2003 MM shifts. Is the SCT XCalibrator3 tuning chip the best way to do this? I currently have the stock 3.55 rear end and I want to keep it that way. Do these tuning chips cause any stress on the engine, transmission, etc.? Are there any installation issues? Thanks!

Save your money and find a cheap xcal2 thats unlocked and get a Zack tune. You won't regret it! :burnout:

If I find one and get a Zack tune, is it something that I should be able to install myself?

The tune and changing perameters within the tune are plug, point, and play. It's that easy

Can you give me a quick down n dirty on the locked/unlocked stuff? Is getting it unlocked a modification that you have to have someone do to it or what?

Used XCal2.
Unlocked: the previous owner downloaded (from tuner to car) the original Ford ECM parameters, more importantly the VIN#, back to the car.
Locked: the tuner "injested" the Ford parameters and VIN#, downloaded the custom tune to the car, and now the VIN of that car is "locked" to that tuner.
If you buy a locked tuner, you will have to pay to have SCT (I think only they can) unlock it.
