View Full Version : Squeaks other than the hood?
I'm trying to locate a faint squeak when driving. It's not very loud, although it varies in intensity, and occurs every 15-30 seconds only while the car is in motion.
It's high pitched and almost has a bit of a "click" to it as well. I can't be sure but it sounds like it's coming from either the engine or below the center of the dash.
I know it's not much to go on, but any ideas?

Do you have Addco sway bars? If so they might need to be greased. Especially the front ones.

Where the cats meet the stock exhaust manifold the studs had lossend up a bit and once in a while the cat to manifold connection would shift on bumps but could only hear it when next to a wall or road divider while driving. It didn't leak exhaust surprisingly so it took a few weeks to find out what it was.
So check the studs holding the cats to the manifolds if you have the factory set up still.

How about something in your glove compartment? I had a squeak that was driving me CRAZY and I couldn't figure out what it was until I cleaned the glove compartment lol

My addco sway bars squeaked for a while until I greased it, and my hood squeaked the entire ride home from Carlisle which drove me nuts.
Can be a driveshaft U-joint
I don't have sway bars and I'm 99% sure it's not the hood (I've tried everything I can think of to make the hood squeak in my garage and it just won't make any noise, so as far as I can tell the hood is silent.)
The U-joints... that sounds more like a possibility. Is there anything I can do for that or is that a job for the shop?
It's such a small little squeak and everyone else just says "oh, you can barely hear it", but I can! Curse my excellent hearing...
Problem diagnosed! I took my father for a ride this afternoon and with the windows down it's a lot more noticeable. When we pulled back into the driveway we sat there with the engine running trying to hear anything out of the ordinary and after a minute or two the noise started up. To him it sounded like the air conditioner compressor.
Any known issues with the compressor or A/C that might cause this? I have noticed my A/C will occasionally blow stronger for a few moments and then go back to normal without me adjusting any settings, other than that it's cold and hasn't been a problem.

..........
Just picked the Marauder up from the shop, figured I'd post the resolution for future "search" users.
It was the A/C clutch making the noise. Fixed under my ESP and works perfectly now... no more noise!
