A Unique Racing Event,...Is an Understatement

During the Carlisle gathering on Saturday, I mentioned a little known national racing series that comes to southern MD. It is; now don't laugh, The US Lawn Mower Racing Association racing series. This year it is scheduled for July 31 - August 1 at the Bowles Farm in Clements, MD. Unfortunately, I'll be in Raton, New Mexico during this event. I went last year and IT WAS A BLAST. Nothing like John Deere riding mowers doing 60+ mph on a dirt track. This might be a fun CAM'r gathering, thought I'd plant the seed in somebody's mind.

This race series goes nation wide and will even have races in September shown on the Fox Sports Network and the Outdoor Channel.

I've done the Pass many times. I been going there basically every other year for the last ten. I am a volunteer for the annual International Youth Hunter Education Challenge (Int'l YHEC), which takes place at NRA's Whittington Center just south of Raton. The odd years it's in Raton and the even years it's in Mansfield, PA.

I love it hearing 400-500 teenagers from all over the country and Canada (at times) say Yes Sir or No Sir, shoot better than I do, have a great time amongst each other,...and safety is PARAMOUNT!

I have an old lawn tractor the deck was shot but I got it running, repainted it, I just need a smaller rear pulley to give it speed!

My folks also have a 1950's-60's era garden tractor, 9hp Briggs but it has a Chevy rear axle in it so I'm thinking carbed 350...

Never gone mower racing, or seen it, but I can see the draw, old lawn tractors sometimes are thrown away for free and can be fun to tool around with when you don't feel like tackling a huge project
