The fire started just after 5 a.m. Tuesday. Officials said firefighters brought the blaze under control in about four hours.

The fire department is a half-mile from the scene and said they felt and heard the initial explosion Tuesday morning. Crews arrived at the scene in four minutes and found heavy fire on the east side of the plant. Fifty-five firefighters from eight departments responded along with Campbellsville-Taylor County Rescue and Campbellsville Police
Several other explosions of propane cylinders occurred after firefighters arrived at the scene. An insufficient water supply also hampered firefighters' efforts.
The Taylor County sheriff has not reported any injuries. ABC Childcare, located near the plant, was evacuated, but should resume normal operations on Wednesday.
The facility is currently used for storage. The section of the building damaged by the fire was used as storage by Clarcor Industries and Amazon. Less than a quarter of the building was destroyed.
The Fruit of the Loom plant opened in 1952, but was closed in June 1998. The plant employed more than 4,000 people in the 1980s.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Gotta go through my underwear drawer at home. ;) Pretty sure that I have some old FoTL stuff in there jammed in the back or at the bottom of the drawer. I didn't realize that it was considered "hazardous" material. :rofl:

It is funny how they never take note of the cars driving quickly the other way when they head to the fire.

Firefighters are often asked for thier input from law enforcement at the scene. As a matter of fact, we were (briefly) taught on observing just such things when I attended the fire academy.
