You would have to get a US to European electrical plug converter and then just plug it into your house electrical supply and it should heat your block.

Ah - you are in Germany, so that connector looks strange to you, but not to us in the United States.
This is the common "power mains" or "AC power" connector used in the US, but not in Germany.
I doubt it does you much good, as you probably don't have a suitable electrical connection to connect it to. In the US, this is plugged in to the standard household AC supply.
It goes to a heater in the engine block (thus, engine block heater, or just block heater) and is used to warm up the car on cold nights, so your heater works.
+1 is used as as short way of saying "I agree."

Isn't household power in Germany 220V? He'd need a transformer rated for, what are these things, 5 - 10 amperes at 110V???
That may be hard to find, but I've never been to Europe.

cool, thank you, for the information!!!!!!
i know this connector, i was some times in the staates ;-) and i have adaptors!
but right, the problem is, we have 220V!
is the bloch heater standard in the marauder?
how long must it connect with the supply?
works it with 220V? (maybe the half time) :cool4:

No its not standard
220V will probably blow it out, you will need a converter

Hello,
I live in Maine in the US where the winters are cold and long. Block heaters are optional equipment. Popular here in Maine. We plug our cars in on cold winter nights so the block wont freeze up and the oil is warm for easy starting of the engines the next morning. timfromme. (Tim from ME)

Don't use it, you might set the car on fire!
And also most 220 to 110 voltage converters are only meant to be used with small items like laptops etc. So be care full.
If I where you I would just replace it all with a new 220v block heater from Defa or Calix.
And block heaters are not standard, I think your car is imported from Canada thats why it has a block heater. You have the Km/h speedo gauge right?

The point being missed is that unless he's got long very cold winter nights, it's not even necessary.

Block heaters were standard on Canadian models.
You need to plug it in for 2 -3 hours, only when the temperature falls below -20C. Otherwise, you do not need to worry about it.

I doubt you'll ever need it in Germany. My rule is -17 (0 F) below before I plug my car in, and I don't believe it gets that cold there. Most folks around here thing I'm nuts plugging it at that temperature with most folks here not bothering untill -25. (-15F) Also, like other guys have said, the block heater in that car needs 110V, and you are 220V in Germany, so you'll need to change out the block heater before you can use it to one that will run on 220V. Unless indeed it does get to those temperatures in Germany I'm talking about, you'll never need it.

A typical block heater uses 750-1500W. I think for a V8, you should assume it's 1500W.

You leave it on as long as you let the car sit. No tstat. It is just a low temp heater. Very subtle. You could probably hold the heating element in your hand.

seldom, at the moment, we have -5°C (23°F), but over night sometimes till -17°C or deeper! when i donīt sell my car this year ( think about to sell the Marauder and then to buy a Town Car), i upgrade a pre-heating! not long time ago, i drive an S-Class with a pre-heating! was a dream

You need a 220 v to 110v stepdown transformer rated for the current (amps) draw of the block heater. You will also need a plug adapter for US to German power cords.
It would most likely be cheaper to replace your block heater with a European type kit.

do you know, what draw on the block heater?
252life

All I know is that a 230v blockheater is almost always 550W. A 110v is probably at-least 550-1000W
But like Dr Caleb said get a converter that can handle a minimum of 1500W just to be safe.
Another option is to replace the blockheater with a 230v unit from Defa or Calix. I would get a complete kit with a cabin heater, it's a "must-have" if you use the car in winter IMO
