View Full Version : NEW wicked rear camera mod!!

Anyone that's ever seen or heard the audio system in my car knows I take customization and attention to detail seriously. My latest modification was intended to add to the car and take nothing on the flipside. My new back-up camera replaces the trunk lock cylinder and was mounted using nothing more than some threaded PVC and some steel nuts used for plumbing. A trunk release cable from a Civic will replace the inside-the-trunk emergency release handle and route to under the back seat in the event that my trunk solenoid ever fails.

I had the camera floating around in my tool box for 2 years. It had two threaded rings to install it that were missing. I had to buy a $30 adaptor for the Eclipse headunit. I think that camera is about $125.00 but you'll need a video cable too.

Actually I had mine done a couple of years ago also in the trunk lock, but yours looks cleaner!

Wow, that's some beautiful work, looks like it should have been a option from ford! For those outside serviceable range, how 'bout a formal write up with pics? Oh and where did you mount the monitor and run the cables?

The monitor is my 2DIN Eclipse DVD player. The cables were ran down the passenger side trunk arm to resemble the driver side harness.

Wouldn't it make more sense in the trunkhole then? If you are filming them from the front, they are ahead of you....:burnout:

Anxiously awaiting videos of fart piped Hondas fading out of camera range!
Does the camera have a zoom option to record the Ricer's face??? >>> :awe:

You need a license plate frame that says:

"SMILE! You're on LOSER Camera!"

Then we will have to wire in a switch to our reverse light's circuit.
You can then activate the camera and throw more light on the loser in order to better view his facial expression.
Rich Long can set us up with some kind of recording device for the camera.

Ahhh yes, the old camera in the lipstick trick ! I should have known !

I did love Don Addams as Maxwell Smart ... and it was some of Mel Brooks teethcutting that made me laugh !

takedown has the same mod and i really did like it. so one of these days when i get a aftermarket head unit thats what im going to do.

Do you have a part number for the Civic cable? Any pictures of how it is installed?
