Hey guys, after searching the forums for my problem (near overheating, climate control problems) it seems obvious to me I have to burp the system on my 03 Marauder. I couldn't find a thread that fully explained how to do this. Can anyone help? How do I burp the system? And what is the crossover tube?
Thanks

Jack up the front end a bit using jack stands or ramps or park on an incline, open the plug on the crossover tube (its literally the black tube that crosses over). Leave the car running while waiting for the "burping" to stop. You'll see coolant sputtering and spraying out of the cross over tube opening. Add your 50/50 gold coolant mixture if needed. When the sputtering and spitting stops, you should be done. Make sure your coolant levels are good. You should see coolant flowing through the tube when you look into the opening.

When you car is on a incline, open the crossover tube and see if you can see coolant when the car is cool. If not, fill the tube then run with the crossover cap loose til you stop seeing air bubbles.

I've never done the incline method and never had any issues (although I hear this works good, I'm just lazy) All I do is keep a small funnel in the crossover hole (top, front engine) and always keep some coolant in it while I gently squeeze all the radiator and heater hoses and watch the bubbles come out. After a good 20 minutes or so of running, remove funnel and reinstall plug.

You mean I've been doing this wrong for 5 years? I always pick her up over my shoulder and gently pat her on the roof.

Interesting thread. I do not have an overheating problem but I have recently noticed that when I first start the car I can hear fluid draining behind the dash (I assume heater core). Would the "burping" solve this too? Also, it the cap on the crossover appears to be an 1/8in drive or so. Anyone know what it is for sure?

Thanks

Make sure you have the heat turned on so you get coolant circulating thru the entire system.

Now, how do we fart the system?

Bob, Could you go longer with the squeezing. Mine lasts longer than 20 minutes... You don't have carpal tunnel or anything do you? You could go skiing with me and Casey...
