I bought the aero exhaust mufflers a while back and thursday I decided to take it down to a local shop to get them installed.
The guy at the shop said he could do it but it would be a tight fit. So I took the opportunity to say that the rear cats were probably in the way and that removing those would give him more room and he agreed saying that it would give him more room, but then looked at me and said, "You do know that in the state of California that sort of thing is illegal?" I said "ya I know I was just trying to help you out by making suggestions" then he said "ya it would really free things up and help your car breath better and maybe a whole cat back system and "H" pipes would really wake this up" I agreed. He said about $200 in cash could get it all done. Keep in mind he was really excited when I brought the car in. "Oh man that's a Marauder I've never seen one up close" said he used to work at Ford but never got the opportunity to check one out.
So the next day I drop the car off and wait like 3 and a half hours then I get the call the guy sounds all excited and he's like "James, you are gonna love the way your car sounds". so I call up a friend get a ride down there, then the shop owner walks me down to the car gives me the keys and says "start her up!!" So I do... OMG, I litteraly thought that another car was making that sound (had a lot of cars comming buy in and out of the shop at that exact moment) for about 3 seconds, then I look at the guy and I said "Oh, sh!# that's my car".
It sounds like someone put a bear in my car and yet it's not ear drum breaking loud it's just deep and it almost trails off into nothing once you hit your cruising speed. Might actually be quiter then it was when I would go all out with just my intake, but it's just so much deeper.
I had to go to work later that night and I have to drive down the road everyone cruises on and I got a lot more attention, I had subaru's, acura's, old school impala's checking me out (we have a lot of acura's around here) seemed like everyone wanted to race, but I was just trying to get to work and I have no intention of doing any of that on a friday night on the main road where all the bars are. Trying to get to work to make money not lose it by getting a ticket.
Completely drounds out the sound of, all the ricers and there coffee cans with deep base, a sound a car should make... Also helps make the hood squeek less of an issue, so that's the lesson here, to solve hood squeek re-due your exhaust.
I would also like to thank My Favorite Muffler Shop in Santa Maria CA. I know that there are a few of you guys in the area look me up and I'll tell you all about it :bows:.

He was saying that he thought the mufflers were a little big, just by the looks at that point though he hadn't actually lifted the car up or anything. I still have the stock tips, I am going to wait a little while before I do anything else, less I get to excited and loose all my money doing mods. I would love to post a sound clip, but my comp is in bad shape, had it on when PG&E shut the power off to my block and now the screen is all fuzzy and blurry can hardley see anything, useing my fiances laptop at the moment.
"ctrlraven" I would like to say thanks for giving your opinion when I asked on another post a while back.
I will try to get some sound clip up sometime soon, I apologize before hand if it doesn't workout.

What size pipe & muffler did he use from the deleted rear cats ? Are the mufflers in the same spot as the OEM mufflers location ?

Well if you find a good exhaust shop they could cut off the back end of the stock tips, knock out the baffle inside them and then re-weld the back end of the tip to the main piece and ta-da delete tips or you could buy some magnaflow ones which are a few inches shorter.
The "test pipe" as I call it would probably be 2.25" to 2.5" just all depending on what the exhaust tech/mech has laying around or whatever. Yes the new mufflers would be location in the stock location because of the need for hangers. When I get my 4.10s installed on Friday I can get a underside shot of the car and you'll be able to see them and their location.

Will our cars still pass California smog inspection if we remove the rear cats?

I would suggest you remove the shops name from your post as "cash" means anonymous muffler shop. Is that Morro Bay in your avatar?

... Adive taken. Got caught up in the excitment.
From everything I have heard we should still pass CA smog. When I got my car smogged (a few months ago) they just plugged it in, took like 5 minutes. So from what I hear as long as they just plug it in we will pass.
Morro Rock is in the picture. Took my daughter and fiance out there. You know there are beach squirrels all over the place, when I was taking that picture they were pulling on my pant leg.

We like to go there when we are in Shell Beach. Haven't met the squirrels you mention. Should have taken the pic w/ the power plant in the pic. Of all the places in Cal to build a power plant why Morro Bay?! Government numbskulls.

Hi Sweetie! And all the rest of you. Went through Santa Maria on the way to Solvang a couple days ago. Did not see a Marauder however.

swoosh's quote still caught the name of the shop. Yeah they can be huuuugely fined for doing something like that so I'm sure they do not need to be on the 'net for this.

ya I'll have to thank swoosh for quoting me on that... Not that it is the real name of the place anyway... So MJ died

Yes. I've seen a Marauder with no cats pass emission testing. Does Cali actually test the emissions or like most states do they just check to see if there are any CEL codes.

Got one of my mufflers off that same guy on ebay. Nothing but good things to say about the transaction.
Can't speak for every place in Cali, but when I got my car tested they just plugged it in, took about 5 minutes and questions and drooling over the car on the part of the smog guy, then I was on my way. I think they only do proper test on cars they can't plug in.
As for the sound clip or video. I will try to get something together maybe tomorrow, having some computer issues (probably need to buy a new one). I guess it would really do more justice than simple words.
