I just read the closed thread about the Drag Racing Event in Illinois. I am sorry I was in Columbus and could not make it, but next time I would definately like to attend. As long as the competition is fun and we all enjoy the rivalry, I am all for it!
Let me tell you a little story about an encounter with a very nice Impala SS last Friday on my lunch hour around the Ford Product Development Center. I was returning from lunch when a came across a gentleman driving a great looking SS. He pulled along side of me and rolled his window down and commented that the MM looked great. I returned the compliment. He told me that his car was very fast fast? My response was, "wanna see?" There was a lot of traffic and we let the crowd get about ten car lengths ahead of us, he hit the gas and I covered him in burning rubber smoke. When the smoke clear, I was way ahead and the look on his face was worth millions. You know that look, very wide eyes, dropped jaw, incoherent mumbling.
He asked if I Brake Torque the car, I laughed! I said I just put the peddle to the floor. At that point he asked if I would pull over to look at my car, which I did. When he got out of the car, his first words were, and I quote, "I am not worthy!!!". I agreed and opened the hood. More of that same look and mumbling.
I suggested that he get a new car, "with some hair on it", if you know what I mean.
Later that day a new customer came in the office, his install is scheduled for January, and told me that I had met his friend earlier in the day. He told me that the guy owned a Black SS. He said, you have made my day!! He said that this guy had been abusing him for weeks about how fast his SS was and that when he got his new Marauder he was going to race him and take all of his money!
He indicated that when the Impala SS owner returned from lunch that day, he came over to my new customer, put his arns around him and told him "he would not doubt his word ever again!
Did I mention, I love this car!! I feel like a kid.
You pick the next time and place of the MM and SS meeting, I will be there! Let the friendly competition begin, what do you think Lidio?
12.42 sec. @ 111 mph and getting faster by the day!
Way to spank'em Jerry.
How about an update of what you've got coming out next?

That car is nothing but a big toy for you. You sit in it with the biggest smile on your face like a child on x-mas morning.

Like Jerry and Slim, I went to Columbus for the Meet today. I would love to have had the chance to run with some Impala's. But with the home run that Jerry hit with the Eaton setup, there arent many cars out there that will run with a Marauder so equipped. I mix it up every chance it get, anyone, anytime, anyplace, strip or street, and so far, I havent found a lot of compitition yet. I have beat a lot of cars that I would have never thought possible. I am really looking forward to Ubly next week, I wonder if any SS's will show up and run with us?

You know sitting here reading all this and talking to SS owners and reading the Impala boards you some times get the picture they think/know the Marauder is big black and s-l-o-w? NOt all mind you but, a few.
Now not every SS owner is guilty of this. I have only run into two at local car shows that had "no time" for the marauder?
Almost all SS owners posting on this site have been stand up people.
I can relate to how Jerry felt when he "dusted" the SS!
Some days is good to be the "new kid" on the block.

my Marauder isn't blown, and is probably only capable of high 13's, but regardless of it being N/A as well as still capable of out running any Impala SS car, I don't see how anyone can even compare the styling of the SS to the MM. The MM looks waaaaay better than any Impala SS ever did. Some one who is a ricer and who was also complimenting me on how good my car looks asked me the other day if my car was a Impala SS, and I was insulted. I said, "What are you nuts?" But then again what can you expect from Ricers?

But the Impala SS was a nice car at the time it came out. In all fairness, its been a few years! I havent met a SS owner yet that was a jerk, I cant say that about the Camaro, Trans Am, Corvette, etc owners that have NO respect for the Marauder; until I set them straight and they go home crying about being blown away by a 4dr family sedan. But I have been to a couple of car shows where the Impala guys were nice, maybe a little jealous, but decent none the less. If it wasnt for the Impala SS, the Marauder may not have come to be!

Life with Jett prevents my MM from participating in many Satuday events. Would love to get it out on the track but simply dont have the time.

I gotta give props to the Montreal F-crowd... I got absolutely NO flack from the gang over buying a Ford product (even though at times, *I* sometimes wondered if I did the right thing, when times are "tough" problem-wise). It gathered it's share of interest from the gang on the few times I've crashed our gatherings with the Merc. No trash talking at all...
And as far as local SS owners go, I also have not had one unpleasant experience I can remember. Nothing but thumbs up (mutual, I have to add... I have no problem acknowledging another nice black full-size RWD sedan when I see one).
Guess I'm lucky...

a good point about Impala owners, and one that was well taken. I wasn't really implying anything negative about Impala owners. I just never liked that car even back in the 90's when I first saw it. And that's due entirely to the body style only. That's why I never even came close to consider buying one of them. But that's merely my opinion ofcourse. I can really be very outspoken at times(even on an online board like this one).

You know, it is great when there is a competitive atmosphere among the manufacturers. It causes them to think outside of the box or reexamine an old idea that was good, but could be improved upon with new styling or technology. I agree with what everyone is saying and if there had not been an Impala SS we may not have a Marauder today.
Steve Babcock saw a group of customers that wanted styling, comfort, room and while he was handcuffed on the performance side, he faught to give us a good platform to build upon. So, congratulations to Chevy for having the idea and to Steve Babcock for fighting the battles to make the Marauder happen.
Oh, and guess what's happening! Chrysler is introducing a new Hemi powered rear wheel drive 4 door vehicle next year called the LX. And we recently worked with Chevy to design a chassis for a propotype 4 door, rear wheel drive Chevy SS with a Corvette drive train. Anyone that attended last years International Auto Show might have seen this bright red car in the Chevy display.
So let's enjoy the lime light while we can, because the competition is coming! Steve are you ready? Ford or Lincoln/Mercury, will you keep us satisified????
Oh and the Ricers, they are kicking our butts in that segment of the market. Ford, what about a supercharged or turbo charged Focus SVT with ALL WHEEL DRIVE???? Great car, but we need to get the power to the road, like the competition(or should I say "Ricers").
We are Americans and we love to compete. And we don't always come out on the winning side, but we sure try like hell!!!!!
See you on the street or the strip!

WOW, Tim,
That's a fantastic time for a stock MM! I might be mistaken, TMBK, 14.75 would the fastest bone stock MM time I have ever seen or heard about on this board!!

So was his SS "fast fast"? Or will he simply need a blower to dust you next time? :P

stumpy,
I don't know, but If someone has one, I would be willing to go door handles to door handles to find out! There are a couple of Marauder owners that would like to test that theory. Should be a lot of fun.
In some cases its always going to be a apples to oranges comparison. When Chevy made the SS, they did not have more stringent fuel and emissions requirements, like the Marauder may have today. but, I am sure that other areas could be favoring the Marauder.
Keep us Ford guys posted.

It would be a long trip, but here you go... 10.80 SS (http://www.impalassforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f =11;t=001017)
If you want some action closer to home there are plenty of NA guys running in the 11s. I'd be happy to give you a go if you want to take off the belt. :D
No matter what tho, there's always a faster car out there. But then for us it's all just for fun! I'm having fun with my Impala as I'm sure you all are with your MMs. Although I prefer that my Impala is faster than any MM I meet at the track, I really focus on improving my score here Impala ET page (http://dan.esteban.com/impalass/ReturnTopET.asp). It gives me a goal, which currently is to be at the top of the Bolt on class.
Hope to see you at the track someday, until then have fun, be safe and stomp the rice.

It is a good looking page. We could highlight some of the fastest here.

That plus you use the class so you will know just what the next mod will do to your ET.
