View Full Version : Climate control temp control seems off- AC cools too cold

Oh boy here we go, another climate control thread. But here is my issue: I used to drive my car with the climate control set at 68 or 70 and it would work great and be very comfortable. However, my climate control had a brain fart a few months ago (it would not turn the fan on no matter what, for about a half hour and after constant turning the unit on and off it finally started working again). Ever since, although climate control does work and it will vary the fan speed if you change the temperature, the temp that you set, does not seem correct any more. If I set at 70 deg even when it's 90 outside, it freezes me out of the car. I have to turn it up to like 76 degrees now. The fan does speed up and slow down in auto mode but it does not seem to be regulating the temp correctly. If you turn the temp way up it will switch over to heat, but anything in the AC mode in auto is cold cold cold. "Auto" mode basically seems to be switching heat/ac and fan speed but not temperature.
All of my modes work correctly, floor/vent/defrost
Any ideas what could cause this? Blend door stuck?

get some compressed air and blow off the little vent to the right of your climate control unit, the thermostat on mine got so dirty it blew like a freezer

that is what I am talking about. My little vent is all full of dust, you can see it. I will try that, if it is that simple of a fix that would be great.

or you can get a tube hooked up to one of your vents and hook it directly to your intake and enjoy the cold air boost! :banana2:
The real question is...would you get enough power from the cold air to make up for running the air conditioner?

There's a tube behind that stat tha draws air. It's somehow dirty clogged or blocked.
You'd get a little power 1% per 10 degrees on average. Not worth it. Besides it would be so loud it would hurt.

Magindat, do I need to take the dash trim off to get to this tube, and how do I clean it? Thanks for the input guys!!
I have the same issue... 75 degrees is just as freezing as 60 degrees.
Did you find a solution? I would be very interested if you did!

My 94 Cougar believe it or not had a disconnected tube that caused the same malfunction except it was a heat non compliance. reconnected the tube ...A OK. Cougar went to heaven last Sept. Kenny
