How much noise is acceptable from a power steering pump? Currently owning 3 Ford products, I know that noise is kind of a way of life with Ford power steering...lol, so I don't want to freak out over nothing.
The noise I hear isn't particulary loud, but it's there and it seems louder than when I bought the car. Back to the dealer or just not worry about it?

I never hear the power steering on my MM or the Taurus I just picked up for that matter. If its making noise when turning a lot at a slow speed thats probably acceptable but if you can hear it going down the road I'd worry about it. A slight hiss going down the road is okay but if its groaning... again I would worry. But I worry a lot.

sconut, without hearing the sound I can't be sure you have nothing to worry about, but before you resort to the dealer, who will charge you up the wahzoo, try flushing the P/S system yourself...it's easy. You can either disco the return line to the reservoir and pump the fluid into a bucket, or you can try the "turkey baster" method: use a turkey baster to suck the fluid out of the reservoir then top it off with fresh fluid. Start the motor and run the wheels lock-to-lock a couple of times. Repeat as necessary until the fluid looks bright and clean again.
