I am having problems with the rear end in my car and I was also adviced a few times (espeically by Zack) that I would be better off with a 31 spline axel.
Does it make since to get a junkyard CV axel, put in my 4:10 gear, install it and call it a day? Do I keep saving for the Detroit True Trac and call it a day and keep my Marauder axel?
Does the CV axel have any benefit? If I do put in the axel will I still need a new posi? Most axels in yards are from Taxis around here.
Please post up advice.
With it's to do something or call me an idiot. I haven't done anything yet, so it's not like I wasted any cash.

what problems are you having with the rear end?
My Advice: get *new* 28 spline axles, new bearing kit, seals - the works. Get your track-lok rebuilt or have someone else like Renihart do it for you. He sold me a nice 28 spline tlok with the CF clutches. Use AMSOIL Synth gear oil, get a girdle too. Break it all in with Dino gear oil then go AMSOIL synth 500 later.
Using Junk yard axles from Taxi cabs is like taking a shower then putting your dirty nasty clothes (same undies for 4 weeks?) back on.

The last continentals were FWD, so I'd hope not.....

I've blown 3 rears - really just blew the posi out. I installed the Cobra HD posi rebuild kit from FRPP which include the HD posi disks and F150 "S" spring and it works very well. I would have a good Mustang shop install them for you. I believe this is a very economical solution to your problem to get you up and running well.

So I should just worry about my posi? No need to replace anything else? Sounds like a better plan.

We should have a FRPP posi vs Tru Trac pros/cons thread, cuz I am currently torn personally

I second that.
For the last time:
CV axles and a Cobra Diff, all available from Ray TheDealer.

They were from Town Car Limos.
Ours are a standard 28 spline 8.8 - same as a plain jane crown vic.
Ford Limos got 31 splines.
In 2005+ all CV's got 31 splines.

OK, I was going by what Steve Babcock told me @ Woodward last year.

I went with Moser 31 spline axles and the ABS ring is reused.
If you order the factory Marauder, CV, GMQ, TC, axles , they come with an ABS ring already installed.
The custom made axles were a couple hundred more total than factory 31 spline.
