New Ford Racing Aluminator 4.6 List $6500

Rebuild or ? Dont want to spend too much but would consider bore and stroked if it doesnt break the bank.

I had 115k on the odometer when she hesitated then clank, clank clank:mad2: Only a mile from the house so was able to drive her home and take the Dodge decrepid.

Get a replacement. A rebuild is $5,500 if you want it done right and that's pretty much back to stock. Save a few grand and find an engine with the least amount of mileage as possible.

03-04 Cobras can be found complete for that kind of money. Lightning engines too.

Lightening engines will not clear by 3 inches I believe.

Cobra engines are factory supercharged and "built".

If you want a stock engine look for a Lincoln Aviator, Mustang Mach I, Marauder or possibly a Lincoln Marc 8... it's the same DOHC engine, but I believe a few things are different.

I am not sure anyone here has, but a lot of mustang folks have. Check around. Some dealers are offering them at 5500, pick up there. The swap is not that hard if you have a motor lift and tools. I could do one in a long day because I had a little practice, Zack probably could do one in a short day with an extra set of hands.
A weekend is a reasonable time. You would have to swap over your front cover and a few other things.
A dealer would probably charge 1000 +/- a few. But if you have the money, by all means have some else do it!!!

I have done five Cobra motors all made close to 600 RWHP. It is a very easy install.

Do you have to use the MM timing chain cover or is the Mach I cover that comes on it the same??

The 03 Coba has the cobra cover and ballancer not the mach 1, so you can use these off your old motor

Yes just to add to Dennis's post just a bit, the Aluminator S/C has 8.5 compression and the cobra front stuff, the Aluminator NA has 10-10.5-1 and the Mach front stuff. On the NA one the lower intake should be the same, so you would need to use MM timing cover, oil pan, valve covers, upper intake, throttlebody and possibly the CS pulley/balancer, not sure about that. But if your swapping the cover, it will be off anyway and would be a good opportunity to upgrade your oil pump if you wish. I am not sure if the aluminator uses the cobra/high volume oil pump on the NA one.
It would be a good time to get any pieces powder coated and change out your tensioner and idler pulleys also. Or any other mods like electric water pump, cooling mod, intake spacer, polished/ported intake etc.
Oh yeah, and if the forged crank is an 8 bolt one on the NA model you would need an 8 bolt flywheel too. Make sure there is no bearing in the end of the crank also!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm probably wrong.

I thought the Mach 1 and Marauder front covers were the same. The valve covers are different though, the PCV connections are somewhat different in configuration and/or location. The oil pan is also different, the sump is different. I'd like to see what the Aluminator NA would do for a Marauder. Go for it!

The front covers may be the same. Unfortunately the note on the long block says it doesn't come with the cool ford racing valve covers.
I wish they would say exactly what the compression is. If it were truly 10-1 instead of the 10.5 -1 ours are that would help in boosted applications. Another 1/2 pound of boost!

My 2004 Brochure says 10.1:1 not 10.5:1 but I've also seen 9.5:1......does anyone really know???

The CR I've always seen is 10.1:1 for Marauder/Mach I/Aviator engines.

EDIT: I just checked my 2003 Shop Manual....10.1:1

Thanks for the replies!

Update on the Aluminator 4.6NA:

Called FRPP 800-Ford788 and spoke with a tech there and he said this motor will bolt right in! They have documented this motor handling 700+ HP in their shop. May need an oil pan and use existing front cover from the old motor and thats it!

List is $6500 and seen them as low as $5700. Waiting for a quote from a speed shop (Goodies) in San Jose.

BTW, my local dealer quoted me $4200 for a reman and $2000 for R&R 3/100k Warranty.

So far I am leaning toward the Aluminator.

Peace!

I'll give you a ring to bounce some ideas off you....Thanks. So far this seems the easiest route to take (FRPP).

Do yourself a favor and take Dennis up on his offer and give him a call. There's no one here that knows more about these swaps.

Another source of information is Joe Walsh. He has, in my opinion, the best "built" motor on this board, not to mention his meticulous install. :D

Ok update.

Looks like there are no SC applications that are CARB approved to warrant a built FRRP Aluminator 4.6L NA. Vortech, Whipple, Kenne Bell, Pro-charger, Trilogy......none.

It would be nice but the OEM comes with a 3yr/100k warranty for $6200 installed vs $8500 12m/12k installed for the FRRP before taxes.

I am now thinking about doing the OEM motor and having the 4.10s/OEM shocks and tires done.

What do you all think?

Before you make any final decisions call modularmustangracing.com They are in Cali.

I understand what you are saying about the difference in price, but it is a nice opportunity for a forged motor.
