Very Unusual Black MM in Chicago Today

Inbound on the Kennedy Expressway at 1:58PM I was sitting in my truck in the farthest right lane in bumper to bumper traffic and a white Taurus goes zipping down the right shoulder.30 seconds later I see flashing red and blue lights and wig wag head lights screaming down the right shoulder,at first all I recognized was a plain black unmarked Panther with red and blues on the dash.Something seemed unusual to me and at first I couldn't figure out what it was.When it flew by me I knew right away why it was unusual,I saw the MM wheels and tips.
Things get more unusual from here though,about a half mile down the road I see the MM has the Taurus pulled over and the MM driver is out of the car talking to the nitwit driving the Taurus and looking none too happy.As I get closer I see the MM driver is wearing civilian dress and has a big semi auto strapped on,I looked at the plate to see what juristiction the guy's from and I saw something I've never seen before on an IL. cop car,an IL dealer plate!
Very strange,I've never seen or heard of a marked or unmarked MM being used anywhere in IL. before,then the guy driving it does a traffic stop while not in uniform AND the car has a dealer plate.
As I pulled alongside the MM's driver got back in the car,I pointed to the car and gave the guy a thumbs up but he just looked at me like WTF and finally waved back to me.
BTW,the MM was VERY clean and in excellent shape,it looked as pretty as takedown's did at JC Whitney.If anybody knows anything more about this car and driver please let me know.
So watch your butt in Chicago,that black MM flying up on you as you're flying down the road may want to give you something more than a friendly MM to MM wave.

Are you sure the guy driving the Marauder was a police officer? Could it have been a 15 year old kid or maybe another police officer wannabe? We sure seem to have alot of them lately here in Chicago.

I don't know,like I said,it was very unusual.If it were either Agency why would the guy be doing a seemingly normal traffic stop,especially in plain clothes or if it were for something more serious why didn't the guy have any back up or didn't he throw down on them and walk away from their car back to his and get into his and use his hand held radio.(which by the way was the size that Chicago used to use back in the early 1990's,BIG radio)

Maybe it was an off duty State Trooper...?
He was sitting in traffic like you when a crazy guy comes flying passed him on the safety shoulder doing 50+ miles an hour in a white Taurus! Of course this state trooper is going to go after him, DMF could kill someone! Off duty state troopers are allowed and encouraged to use their cars when not working. :cool:

For those of you who saw mine at Fords @ Carlisle probably didn't notice the hidden emergency lights, MIRT and UHF Radio. I am a Chief SRO (L.E.O.) for a school and my work vehicle is a DTR Marauder which I drive all the time. School colors are maroon and gold, the reason my boss went for the DTR Marauder but I'd like to switch over/back to a black 2004 MM some day.
I too am often in plain clothes as a Chief and have to make car stops on occasion, wearing a shirt, tie, badge and gun. I will guess the car has dealer tags on it until the state's Special Tag Unit can issue a tag. That is how it works in PA unless you currently have a tag to transfer onto the vehicle in hand.

Where were at on the Kennedy inbound when this started? If you were around the Rosemont area it could have been one of ther Auxiliary/part time police. Some of them have gotten carried away with that authority and go beyond their assigned responsibility. The one you saw probably has a fulltime job as a car dealer or salesmen and plays part time cop so they can carry a gun. If you remember the plate info shoot me a pm and I will try and find out the deal.

Oops,I forgot to include I was inbound just east of the Austin Ave. exit at the time they went by me.
I was more bent on congratulating the guy on his car and didn't think to get the plate number as I was absorbing a lot of details pretty quickly. He was packing a big piece,it looked like a full size 1911 size wise and the grip angle was about right for a 1911 too and that puzzled me as I don't know any agency around Chicago which permits carrying 1911's,only revolvers or DA only.
It was the third black MM I've seen this week but the only one I got near enough to see the driver as I was in my truck every time.Thursday I saw a clean black MM westbound on Chicago Ave.,I had to turn off at grand Ave. and he continued west.
One other driver that works for the same company I do has an SB MM he daily drives.Last week he was working at my yard,yesterday i pulled a load out of his yard.We very seldom get a chance to talk as I start work usually an hour or more before he does but he said he's seen the site here.
On June 12th I saw a dirty black MM tucking Dubs westbound from St. Clair downtown as I was walking back to the lot after leaving my cardiologist around 1PM.

Being that far in it could have been a Fed agency and they just have dealer plates on as a cover. We have a Marshals task force out here at DuPage maybe I will hit the guys up on Monday and see if that car rings any bells.

I have never used my lights to pull anyone over, but I have been very temped a few times. The problem is I fear is the person I pulled over had a gun or if they didn't find the joke funny I would be in jail... which isn't bad, but it would delay my life.

If I go to jail for anything again, it would have to be a lot worse than me pushing a button on my car.
