so i got the rear end tighten up as per the tsb. the order said they tighten up the rear control arms, the sway bar, and some other stuff. and it feels better when the tires are on the same plane but it still pops when they go up or down hills, potholes, etc. is this normal or do i need to take it back?

I would definately take it back dude.
here's a dumb question: do you drive around with alot of crap in your trunk? For a while I'd hear a clunk in the back, not always. When I was cornering hard, or under WOT I finally figured out it was just $h!t rollong around in the damn trunk!

you gotta take the time to go to the dumpster at the neighborhood supermarket and drop off some of those dead bodies rolling around in there. Don't they start to smell after awhile? maybe that's why you're always smoking the tires. Right? You would rather smell the burning rubber?

The pop/clunk in mine seems to be the spare tire. I push down on the back edge of it and the front raises. When I let go it makes the same sound I hear on potholes, etc. I tighten it and the noise stops for a few days, then starts again. I check the spare and it's loose again. WTF??? Next I'm going to put some heavy packing foam under the front edge of the tire and tighten it down good.

My dealer had the Field Service Engineer working on mine a couple of weeks ago, they have ordered three new body mounts which will be installed this week. Hopefully, that will end the popping issue.

This has got to be one of the longest running threads I have seen on MM.net ! My MM also suffers from " what's that damned popping sound from the rear when I ease over a speed bump" ? I have read several good ideas; yet not see an answer. I too think it's something to do woth the spare tire and mounts accessorys. I drove me crazy for awhile, as I imagained all types of terrrible rear end problems. I give up and will learn to live with it...... well, at least there are no air leaks around the widows !!

Mine keeps getting louder! Hope we find out soon what's wrong. :D
I'll be checking on my spare tire for now.

Mine also had a popping noise. The problem was the driver rear parking brake being too loose. The shoe was hitting the rotor. The dealer adjusted it under warranty.

I've seen two MM's w/this problem. Keep in mind noise problems are not usually the same thing on multiple cars but these two both had problems with the rear shock mounting. The upper mounting point of the rear shocks was not centered in the bracket. This made the stud on the top of the shock rub or tap against the bracket. You can usually spot this by looking in the rear wheel opening at the top of the shock and see if the rubber grommet is rolling over the edge of the bracket. Good Luck.
