View Full Version : Wiper Blade -What Brand to Use?

 I've been using BOSCH replacement blades since I got the Marauder 4 years ago and they hold up for a few months and then start skipping. Very loud and annoying once they start to wear a bit. I saw Rain X is touting its blades as the ultimate wiper blade. Has anyone ever used them and if so would you recommend? Also, what do the members recommend for blades if not Rain X??

I've had good luck with Bosch replacements on mine, interesting to hear the problems you've had with them.
Do you wipe off the blade edges regularly to remove any build up? I do this every time I wash the car and it's amazing how much black junk will build up on them.

I ran a set of wiper blades for almost two years a long time ago when I was poor as could be,about once a month or so I cleaned them with an old clean t shirt soaked in rubbing alcohol until I didn't get much more black color on the t shirt and they work pretty darn good all that time.Even cleaning them with a clean rag and water helps though, try it on a set of blades that streak and see for yourself.

Bought a box of Alcohol Prep Pads at the pharmacy and use them to clean of the blades. Helps them last and they work better when cleaned off

I really like the Rain-X latest offering. Use their windshield treatment and you almost do not have to use the wipers at all. Dennis

+1 on the Rain-X treatment, Dennis.
03mmmonroe did the windshield treatment on the Bluemobile when we were out in Louisville this spring and I noticed a BIG difference in the next rain storm.

I've have some good luck so far using the Trico Neoform blades. They're about $23 each at Napa. Also been using the Rain-X bug removing washer fluid with decent results, although it does leave spots on the paint when it dries.

Yep. I wipe off the blades and wash them with Mothers Car Wash each time I wash the car but still get the problem. I like another member's response about wiping with rubbing alcohol. Think I'll try that idea.

Ive had very good luck with the Michelin blades and they are an exact copy of the original low profile blades.

I had the same problem as 04MRADR with the Bosch blades; they worked very well, but only lasted a few months. I also tried the NAPA silicone blades...same result. Both of these blades are $12-$14 each and that got old quickly.
Someone here mentioned a few years ago about the Michelin blades from Walmart. $8 each and they work just as well as the above and last at least as long, if not longer. Been using them ever since.

Check out Bosch Icon. Not the cheapest; not the priciest. I've been running them for about 1-1/2 years, and they're still working like new. Best wiper I've ever bought.

I only use the Motorcraft ones. They will last a year or more if you regularly clean them.

The expensive bosch micro edge wipers were so bad out of the box, that I couldn't use them. They wiped so well that even at a much lower speed than I needed to keep the window clear, they would chatter and jump.
I am using a mono beam wiper that I think is a Trico. The mono beams look cool and work fine. They are like $17 a blade but I don't care w/ the amount of driving I (don't) do in the rain w/ that car.

Been using the rain -X wipers since they came out, same set for 3 years no problems.
Now I do have to add I wipe them with winshield washer fluid every month, also the car is kept in a carport and unless I get caught in the rain I very rarely drive it in the rain anymore. retired / unemployed since OCT 2005.

Rain-x the windshield then rain-x blades... Hardly have to use the wipers with the rain-x treatment, but when I do, the wipers are the best I have used yet!
I used Trico Exact Fit 22 and they seem to hold up quite well.

But the expensive bosch micro edges chattered like hell for me, so not all expensive things are the best either.

the skipping from the wiper blades isn't so much the wiper....it could be the harsh surface of the windshield. try polishing the windshield with some elbow grease and rain X till its super smooth to the touch. additionally keep your wiper blades clean by using a scouring pad to clean the edge and alcohol to finish it off.
