Hey guys,
Whenever I go to the gas station and I attempt to put gas in my MM the pump always clicks and stops. In other words, it takes me about 15-20 mins to fill my car up. I have to pump the gas exrtremly slow in order to keep the pump from stopping. It's almost like there is something stuck in the fuel pipe that leads to the tank. Anybody know what's causing this problem?

Did you try positioning the nozzle different ways? I have found when that happens that if I lift up on the nozzle it helps with that issue... or push down... I had that problem once before... just maneuver the nozzle around until it works for you and just keep doing whatever winds up working for you!

Wasn't there a post on here about a fix for this, something about a vent solenoid getting plugged up with debris and causing it to give fill up problems at the pump?

From my experience working at a gas station, Ive found that some nozzles wind up being bent more due to ppl leaning on them etc. When I encounter the problem you mention, I just pull the nozzle back out an inch or so and try again. Sometimes I have to repeat a couple times but I always get it to work. I hope this helps.

the vent tube could be plugged or the check valve at the tank could be sticking only allowing so much fuel to pass through at once. i have seen that alot of rangers

after inserting the pump i back it out an inch or two and it fills at the pumps fastest speed. ....kind of sounds like i am describing a ***** pump. which is cool too!!:lol:

I've tried pulling the nossle out a little, i've tried different angles, i've tried differrent pumps at different gas stations and nothing works. At this point i'm convinced that this is a technical issue. I'll check for that thread about the vent solenoid issue, hopefully that will shed some light on this issue. Thanks guys

Most likely the evap/charcoal canister
This is a common problem on aging 1998+ model panthers and has been covered a lot on CVN. The problem is the valve/vent hoses get filled with debris causing the valve to stick or jam. The symptom is the problem you have now, very slow fill speed / auto shut off keeps engaging and/or 'burping' sounds while filling the tank.
This solves it for most members;
1 - Remove the two nuts securing the charcoal canister to trunk (black box on underside of trunk floor) and gently lower it down
2 - Disconnect the hose from the passenger side and electrical connector from driver's side of box
4 -Remove the valve from canister and blow-out with compressed/shop air. Then reinstall.
5 - Blow-out/clean hose with compressed air and reconnect.
I'd try this first and report back. This only takes about 20mins
