A successful race car builder/driver that rides with me on the posse mentioned that adding two bottles of AMSOIL octane booster to 16 gallons of gas will put you in orbit. :burn:

On race nights it nets him more than a few tenths of a second. Works OK on the street too. :burnout:

Not just any brand he say's, but AMSOIL.

Anyone have any experience with this product and application?

Have you actually seen the results and the timeslips on this claim? Sounds like snakeoil to me. If this were true, don't you think that the MM folks would be all over this for a "few tenths" of a second. They'd probably even be a vendor here putting low 13 second cars into the 12s. Might be just the thing to push Sherm from 10.3 to 9.9.

Of course, if he is running in the mid-20s ... anything is possible. Hell, Windex might give an improvement. ;)

lol i hope your just joking Pat. i love the one company that says "made with jetfuel" so they add a pint of basicly diesel fuel to your tank and call it octane booster

Looking at Amsoil's home page it seems that low octane gas users may benefit but those who have access to 93 and above, like race fuel, wouldn't see any real gain.

I'm riding with him tomorrow, I'll ask for more details. I would be reluctant to put that much in my tank at one time.

I used to use Amsoil in my Z-28. I can honestly say that after changing to thier oil and filter, I had to set my idle back a little because it bumped up my rpm's noticeably. I have one of thier air filters to put on my 'vette, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I still have about a half a tube of thier bearing grease, works great on pretty much anything that needs greasing or de-squeeking. I also used thier carb cleaner on 2 of my vehicles with impressive results (imagine Sea-Foam in an aerosol form). I am not a spokesperson or seller of thier products, but I can vouch for what I used. The cost is what keeps me from using thier stuff all the time.

I found that octane boosters actually made my MM run a little bit worse. Have not tried Amsoil brand however.

Read the label on these octane boosters. They only raise octane by a fraction of 1 point. In most cases, it is lower than .5. So in short.........SNAKE OIL!!!

I've tried octane boosters with my Galant and with the Marauder. My Galant had a more noticable difference in my mind, but that's not saying much seeing what it is.

And like was noted, they like to play fuzzy math on the labels for these things, they may say "raises octane 10 points" but that equates to like one octane number, so putting an average bottle of it in with a full tank of 93 gets you effectively 94, which is useless I think.

Now there are some that supposedly aren't street legal, and I can't speak for those...

^^^what im4darush and MrBluGruv said^^^

I haven't tried or even heard anything about the AMSOIL version, but 99.9% of the other OTC octane "boosters" are worthless.

you guys are forgetting, octane is simply a measure of a fuels ability to resist detonation. therefore 200 (if it existed) octane wouldnt do a damn thing in any car unless it had the parts to use it

I used the stuff years ago when Moroso used to make it.
It left a jelly like goo in my tank that clogged my fuel pump.
No thanks to fuel additives for me.:(

I will give any of you a tip but only by PM......Cheapest and BEST octane "enhancer" ever but the last time I mentioned it in a thread some "CLOWN" decided to bash me about all the damage I am doing to my engine (motor down here in SC)!!!:shake:

I will say that with 201,186 miles on the original motor, I must be doing something right!!

Also, ZERO oil consumption between changes!!:bows:

Wasn't there a Nascar Driver and Crew chief fined and fired for using fuel modifiers?

I recently learned that octane boosters with MMF can leave a residue on the plugs. I guess the residue could be throughout the combustion chamber.

I noticed a slight improvement when I used a bottle of octane booster...

So now I just use bottles of octane booster in place of gasoline. It is expensive, but it put my stock Marauder in the 9s.
