View Full Version : MM with Salvage history good or bad?
Guys I'm new here and need some help. I'm looking at a 2003 300a and the dealer is asking 12K. I run the vin but he doesn't know it and the car has a salvage history but has been fixed. The car has 30k miles inside looks good but some of the hood gaps to fender and front doesn't line up.
How would I go about checking door gaps and what else to look for? Did these cars new come with perfect gaps or misaligned a little? I have not driven it yet but will check it out this weekend. I am thinking of offering like 6k cause of the salvage history does this sound fair?

I wouldn't even take a chance.
Average mileage, CLEAN Marauders are selling for that price.
A higher mileage car (at least one on here) is going for under $8,000....and that's with a complete service history and a clean record.
It's your money. Salvage cars were salvaged for a reason. Not saying they can't be repaired, but when there are so many clean examples for that price, i wouldn't bother. Especially if whoever "fixed" it couldn't even manage to gap their panels correctly.

Run, with all you've got RUN. To this day I haven't seen a MM with misaligned hood and door gaps. Price should be alot lower if it has a salvage title. Think of it this way, you wouldn't even be able to trade it back in to him with a salvage title.

RUN LIKE HELL!!! Buy a clean, well maintained one with a known history from a member here and you'll never regret it.
Thanks for the quick responses that got to say something about this forum. I was thinking the same thing as far as I may can find a Marauder not salvaged for that price but with higher milage. Speaking of high milage how are these cars with 100k+ milage and age?
Can someone on here dig deeper than I did with the vin# to see what happen to that car?

PM the vin to RoyLPita, he can do an oasis report, which should give you some more info.
There's a lot of members here with over 100k miles. I've personally seen/driven GoMifuni's car, and it's hard to believe it has that many miles. Also another local member Paul T Casey I believe has 200,000? miles.

Don't buy it, my first marauder was a salvage title and althought it ran very good for a few months it was nothing but trouble, and lots of money being spent every time it broke down.

The carfax on my car only lists the driver window repair.
Looked at my MM and the gap on both sides of the hood is even with the gap at the front with the grille larger but uniform.
The gaps on the trunk are uniform except the passenger taillight is close to the metal on the trunk lid. The gaps on the front doors are larger than the rear gaps on the rear doors.
Hope that helps, Also there is a red 2004 for sell on Ebay for less.

I wouldn't trust Carfax.
My brother (Hot-Rauder) bought his car in April of 07. The carfax came back CLEAN.
After joining here and PM'ing RoyLPita, he got the Oasis report.
The motor had been pulled, oil pump and a few other parts replaced, all this just a month before he bought it.
also, the car had been hit both front AND rear. This wasn't immidiately noticable, but after some looking, it was clear both quarter panels had been replaced (they were plastic).

Aaron,
I'm curious. What do you think my Kenny Brown car with 87k miles and well-cared for is worth on the open market?
Guys thanks for all the replies and I will keep looking. And when I find one I know this site will help me with problems or questions that may come up. Thanks again.

Run the vin number through Auto Check its what most new car dealer use to check used car history instead of Carfax. It free to start with and depending what come up it cheaper and pulls more information than Carfax .

Plenty of nice ones out there, no need to take a chance on a salvage titled car.
