Guys, I tried the search function with out success. Lidio installed Trilogy #195 recently and replaced the voltmeter with a boost guage unlike the remaining stock OP guage. Jerry told me the stock OP guage is really an analog idiot lite anyway (much to my dismay) so I could replace it with a mating new guage of the same series as the boost so they will match. Swell. My question is: Must the sending unit be replaced as well or will the stock unit operate a real guage? Thanks for your help.

This should help you out.It is part of a bunch of faq's with some good answers.
Take some time and read them all at your leisure.

Yes the stock sending unit is basically a On Off switch. Must replace the sending unit as well

Thanks for the archived tech data. It is now archived on my hard disc as well. Is the sending unit located where it can be serviced without removing everything above the oil pan? Jerry sourced the Auto meter Pro comp series. Any recommendation who to order this from?

No pan removal nessecary. Just next to/below the oil filter. And can pick up the gauge anywhere autometers are sold. If i remember right the sending unit is included with the gauge.

The factory installed Auto Meter oil pressure guage is a "real" guage. All you need to do is replace the factory "switch" sending unit with the Auto Meter Model #2242 electrical guage sender near the oil filter, plus change the connector type for the sending unit. I bought the #2242 sending unit through Amazon for about $25.00.

The factory installed Auto Meter oil pressure guage is a "real" guage. No, it isn't. The OEM gauge is specially ballasted to read a little more than half way when the sender (switch) closes. If you simply replace the sender and don't change the gauge unit, you won't get true readings.
