I noticed Motorhead350s' sig has "poorly tuned" running 12.8 in the quarter.
Since his buddy tunes his car, why is it Poor?
What makes it poor?
Is it a poor mans' tune?
Who else has a poor tune?

Other than the fact is was lean as hell, would barely run past idle and failed miserably.... nothing. Why do you ask?

I thought the question was on topic..... Was it not? You asked some questions about a members situation with a tune, and instead of asking that member privately, you started a public thread. I thought it was kinda odd, thats all.

I was curious what makes a "Poor tune", by his (motorhead350)and the members standards.
Your stock Vortec tune sounds like it qualifies.
Hard to understand how they can expect that to suffice.

NO stock Tune is good. I have seen "Stock" Vortech Tunes from DR, Trilogy "Stock" Tunes, and Trilogy Twin Screw "Stock" Tunes. I would not drive ANY of these on the street. This is not saying they are not safe, but NONE of them are, BY FAR, the most bang for the buck, while being SAFE.

There isn't anything wrong with the Trilogy tune. It is conservative but works very well with the 3.4 pulley and K&N CAI or 3.2 pulley and stock airbox. 390HP (to start) at the wheels is nothing to frown about.

Define "Good." How "Good" is good? Do you mean squeaking every last HP and TQ out of your setup? Is that how you define "most bang for the buck"? Rather dramatic, Steve, to say you'd never drive any car with a "stock tune" on the street. It can be and is very subjective and I think you'll find a number of owners that are happy with their stock SC tune. I am not dissatisfied with my Trilogy stock tune in the least and I have no interest in pushing the limits. I have a "Good" tune and I don't want the "Bang." I think you'd better let each owner speak for themselves.

I agree, Brian. After installing T61, we drove to see Lidio just for peace of mind and the tune was right on. We did have him increase the idle speed just a hair. He also said adding a the PHP cold air kit would not need any adjustment. Nothing wrong with Lidio's stock tune, Steve.

I have a Vortech on my MM that was originally tuned by Ford Chips at the beginning. Does this statement apply to my car too?
My problem is when I need to get another tune where do I go in the Massachusetts area?
How do I determine if I need a tune again? THe car seems to rum well but I'm far from being as knowledgeable as many of you are.

I believe you live in New England. You drove to Michigan for a tune at Lidios? If Lidio was a few hundred miles away I would have him do everything on my car but over 1,000 miles is too much at this time.

So, they actually dyno tuned the car AFTER install? If so, it was not a "stock" tune. I am referring to the mail order Tune that is supplied with a Blower.

Isn't that what this thread is about...? Steve seems to be the only one that has replied. I don't see how that means he's speaking for ALL trilogy/vortech owners....?!?
Maybe Dave can speak up, he has a poor tune also.

Sure, Steve can speak to his own tune as a former owner. He does not represent other owners, which I suggested could speak for themselves. And you part in this is what, Aaron?

I raced with the stock trilogy tune for over a year without any problems. 90+ runs down the 1320. Then sold the engine to another member on this site and the motor is still eating hemi's with another trilogy setup and tune. I think it was a excellent tune because I drove home from the track every time without issue. :)

My car has the factory stock tune in it.
It's AWESOME!
Just last week I passed a John Deere tractor pulling an empty haywagon, dusted my friends riding lawn mower and completely blew the doors off a UPS truck. :banana2:
That night I put on some Ted Nugent and cruised through some trailer parks looking for fat chicks. Ooops, I meant to say P.H.AT. (Pretty Hot And Tempting).
All in all I'm VERY pleased with the way my Marauder performs.
BTW, "phat" redheads don't care what tune you've got as long as the AC is cold and The 'Nuge is loud! :2thumbs:

I ran a stock Trilogy tune for about 2 months... then went out to Woodward with Charlie and Bob and had Lidio dyno tune it.
There was a difference.
He improved the shifting and got rid of part throttle ping...
I'd bet that was due to the K&N CAI not being factored into the Trilogy tune, but that's only MY guess.
oh... and I got 1.5 mpg better !
I think it's really a matter of the car.

I don't blame DR but I had no recourse but to drive 14 hours to see Lidio to give my Marauder a new tune. If I had to drive to Orange Park would have been another 2 days.

The tune was poor to me because I know it had more power left and I found it when it was tuned, it was tuned as a 2003 Ford E350 Econoline Van. It wasn't any "buddy" of mine. I actually really dislike the guy now quite a bit. It was tuned about a month ago for 7psi since the blower was giving me problems, but now that it's good I need it tuned to 11psi. When it ran 12.8 it had the Airport Express tune and with all of my mods I knew it should have done 12.3 or better.
A lot of people (even here) said I was the problem and I should let Zack drive it. I did and he could only get it to run 13.0 while I was doing 12.8 all night long. I wasn't the problem dispite everyone saying I didn't know how to drive! My "buddy" doesn't give out performance tunes, only transmission tunes. (Expect that to be deleted soon)
By definition a poor tune is: When you know the car has more in it and you took it to someone who didn't completely know what they were doing.

Dom, living in such a large city, there has to be a reputable shop/tuner around there that does excellent work.
Ask around, search the local internet forums, and find a tuner that you trust.

From what I have learned from watching Dynos....
1. Make sure you have enough fuel. A Ford GT Pump + a Boost-a-Pump along w/ "Green Top" Injectors will do for pretty much all of the "standard" boost options. Even once you start making some BIG numbers. This is what I was running when the car did the "big" pull. :D
2. Make sure you have enough air. A SCT 2800 MAF should cover just about the same as above. I was also running this ;)
And lastly, NEVER, EVER, go to the dyno (or track for that matter) without expecting, and accepting the worst.... a blown motor. If you cannot handle that, stay stock :cool4:

Glad I didn't have any of these "issues" when I made my trip to Brian's, for which I will gladly give a shameless plug to. He went out of his way to help me out, for that I am thankful.
BTW, 472HP was where we left it, I still need more, so...... new longblock, transmission, 18lbs, and I will be happy(er), so roughly another 10K or so..... does it ever end?:shake:
