Have not done that particular combination. However, it may work.

255/45/18 = 27.04" tall (estimated)
235/40/18 = 25.40" tall (estimated)

Ratio of Rear to Front is 1.0646 = 1.065 and that is pretty close to the 1.066 that I am running with 255/55/18 rear and 235/50/18 fronts with no interference with TC or ABS.

You should check the actual tire heights before committing.
