ok i tore apart the 4.6 in the big black beast, now I have everything together except one thing and its kind of a brain fart... before I put the timing cover back on there is a little gear that slides over the crank shaft right? and it just slides on no bolts or nothing and the cover goes over top of that and the crank pulley goes on.. just seemed kinda weird the gear slides over the outer part of the crank shaft and nothing wraps around it? it seems kinda pointless to me... help me out

Maybe you're talking about the trigger ring? It has one tooth missing?

yeah it has a tooth missing its like a copper color, it has a part number on it and it says front on it, it has three holes on the outer and three holes about the diagram of a screwed up triangle, about 4 1/2 in diameter and it has a notch to slide over the outer shaft of the crank, the teeth on it kinda curve out at a 90?

It should have a notch that fits the keyway which the timing chain gears fit onto.

it has a notch in the center of the hole where it slides over the crank but nothing wraps around it right its just a gear that sits on the crank and the timing cover goes over it it doesnt bolt down or anything? and then I slide the timing cover back on bolt it on and then put the crank pulley back on?

Looks like it just slips on the crank. Are you doing this without a manual? :loco::shake:

New tensioners and guides? You should probably install a new crank bolt. They are only suppose to be good for one time.

The CPS looks at that cog gear you are installing to make sure all is well. Don't forget to use a dab of RTV when putting the harmonic balancer back on, and on 4 places on the cover. Ford does this from the factory. It will leak if you forget.

Again what did you do/upgrade/fix ?
