Driving home from work I went to the store, and when I got back in the MM and started her back up, right away sputtering , so I decided to drive it anyway got 50 feet and she dyed:mad2:. Replaced the fuel pump relay because it was cheap but no go. When I turn the ignition switch on I don't here the fuel pump charging the fuel rail? Fuel pump? Do they just go out like that? I have a black 04 with 10526 on the clock. Oh BTW I'm trying to remember if I used to here the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds before I actually started the ignition "am I right on that" Thanks in advance;)

Yep you should hear the pump priming.....perhaps the "Tilt Switch" in the trunk needs resetting??

It is a red button in the trunk marked "Fuel Pump Cut Off".....it is supposed to shut the pump off in a crash or roll over??

Try to reset it and if that doesn't work it may just be the pump!!:shake:

Good Luck!!

Again thanks, but unfortunately while I was stranded I did try the switch in the trunk, and pounded on the fuel tank "in the parking lot" and tapped on the relays under the hood etc. But I have to admit I had just under 1/2 tank of fuel and it was 110 degrees outside, could of just been the ticket to burn it up. If I remember right the fuel cools the pump "could be wrong". OK I guess I'm out to buy a pump:bigcry:. Hay question? Should I buy an OEM pump or buy some new fan dangled one that might be stronger or last longer "syncs I'm changing it anyway":cool4:

Don't forget about the fuel pump driver module. It basicly duty cycles the pump to control pressure. You can bypass the module by jumping a few wires to see if thats the problem.

Did not know about a driver module? Is this something I would be able to look up in my MM workshop manual? And by jumping the wires together, is this a complicated procedure? Good info thanks, I'll look into this before I buy a 300.00 pump.:burnout:

It depends on the manual you have. If you have 1 with electrical diagrams you should be ok.
The module is located in the same area as the fuel cutoff switch. It has one 10 pin connector going to it. What U would hafta do is jump pin 9 white color wire (Hot) to pin 10 Pink/Black. Then jump Pin 2 Black (Ground) to Pin 3 Brown/White. Then cycle the key on and listen to see if you here the pump running, the vehicle should start also if thats the problem. Just don't run it too long cause basically your having the pump run at full pressure and depending and the guage wire your using the wires may get quite hot.

Well apparently I thought I had the one and only manual? Guess not "no wiring diagrams, I might need the (pc/ed) manual that refers to control/emissions diagnosis? dunno. But let me take a look at the module your talking about and find it see if I can do this? Just wondering also,is this module a common problem with the fuel sys in your experience or is it mainly all of the above ie any of the three components?;)

Ok found the module did the jumper test "still no fuel pump" so guess it's the pump. But, BTW thanks for the excellent directions, found the module, jumper ed the exact wires you said, it was a good easy test and I didn't even know it was there! So thanks again:coolman: I would of felt bad going through the pump change and no worky.;)

Well, to my surprise, "I guess so" My friend has a crown vick 1999 with 67887 on the clock, no fuel pump issues? And for that matter nothing that I remember except the usual, brakes, tires etc. maybe because mine is garage kept most of the time, dunoo? Or maybe the MM has a different fuel pump set up? OH well it's a bummer,I guess could be worse.....:beatnik:

I forgot to mention 1 other thing to check, Make sure you have power on the white wire pin 10 to the Fuel pump module with the key on. If not, you have another problem beside the pump.

That sucks, mine has 13k, and no probs(knock on wood) driving it about once a week.

That is a good test, "I should of thought of that yesterday". Anyway got 12volts on the white wire pin 10 with the ignition on. So moving on to the pump. Well, actually I got 11.7volts battery going down "have to give it a charge",air pump going on etc...Thanks ;)

Yea, it might be a flooky thing, but I think I will exercise it a little more in the future...I must admit I don't baby it very much and somtimes I drive it like I stole it:coolman: OK more than somtimes. I hope when I put this pump in it's all good, if not I'll be .....well pissed:mad2:. Stock in the box "not installed" I'm lookin at somwere between 200.00 to over 300.00 and that's at discount rate:bigcry:. Oh well I just want it running:burnout:. Later on, tell you the progress later.

Buy the Focus SVT fuel pump at your parts store for about $80. It is a direct plug-in for the stock MM pump and flows way more fuel then the OEM.

I have a friend that's a parts dealer. So I wound up replacing the entire assembly, OEM pump, sending unit , filter bag, etc. Runs awesome now. Hey BTW, my old pump armature completely melted " Pict's later" Oh, I dissected the old pump to see what went wrong!
