Good morning MM community,
I need help figuring out a possible problem I have. I purchased a MM motor from a junk yard in Wisconsin about a month ago with 32K miles on it. Finally got the engine installed this past weekend and picked the MM up yesterday. My mechanic is great, did the work in 3 days and only charged $700:D, he does everything for all you CAM members out there. Anyway while i was driving back home yesterday i noticed that my exhaust tone is higher(sounds like a ricer:mad:). My exhaust wasn't as deep as flowmasters but I could tell there was something different. Also, i couldn't chirp my tires anymore, the MM just launched hard. So my question is, did the junk yard get over on me and ship me a CV motor? How can i tell? ANY help would be appreciated.
P.S. - I have a long block for sale, only items it needs are bearings and a crankshaft. Came out of a running car.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the first indication would be an iron block!

Post a picture here and we'll tell you. The Marauder is an all aluminum engine that has 2 cams per head (4v) The valve covers are much bigger on a Marauder than on a 2v Crown Vic engine.
Did you reinstall your tune? PCM new or "old"

Talked to my mechanic after i posted this, but he said he's pretty sure its a marauder motor because he installed everything from my old block to the new block and if it was a CV motor the connections wouldn't have fit correctly. So by him saying that, I'm still confused at why my exhaust is so mellow and i can't chirp.
Do i need to reinstall the tune if nothings changed but the engine? I bought the car from Zack already tuned so i dont know how to reinstall it, but im willing to learn:D.

Need pics! I am pretty sure that everything bolting to the block tells you nothing other than it is indeed a 4.6 of some sort. It could still be from something else.

This was a Short Block they installed with your heads and such?
If it's iron..... it's not a Marauder Block. And lower compression ratios....

no, i bought a complete MM engine but Zack had a different setup(pulley's, oil pan, etc) on mine so my mechanic just swapped all of my accessories onto the new motor. Only problem with the old motor was the bottom half(bearing and crankshaft). Everything other part was fine.

Strange, contract Zack the seller of the product. It sounds like you have an exhaust leak. Note: Head bolts should be used once.

Did you buy a Navigator motor. I question why the oil pan was not the same.

I would have compression test done on the replacement engine to make sure they're all up to par.
Their results should all be within 5-8% of each other.
Your lowest reading should not be less than 200psi. If so, your motor may be a little worn. It is still ok as long as it don't smoke.

Sounds like you probably have an exhaust leak, like Merc said. A Compression test is a very good idea. Also as it is getting warmer here you're going to chirp a lot less because the tires will be softer and so will the road which increases the traction. Warm weather my tires don't chirp on the WOT 1-2 shift but in cold weather they will.

I doubt it.
They would have to do major modification to bolt his factory intake back on and not to mention getting the motor back in the car and not having the cam cover interfering with the brake booster due to the taller Navigator block.

There are so many Marauder guys out here someone can probably just go look at what he wound up with

I think he means Aviator block.
Sounds right Merc. I dont understand the oil pan change. Are they diff. from 03 to 04?

Just to clear things up, Im not saying it's not a MM engine, I just want to make sure it is(should have checked before the install, stupid me:censor:). There's nothing wrong with the engine, it runs great. Don't have the money to buy&install another motor but if its not a MM motor, I some money back.

No, I didn't order a Navigator motor. What engine they gave me idk.

Good advice Thanks. I've ruled out having to reinstall my tune because it still shifts the way it use to(Very Hard, thanks to Zack:D). I was able to chirp the tires ONCE(tried 3 times) from a stop at WOT from 1-2 but I'm use to chirping also from 2-3. There were no leaks when i brought the car to my mechanic so maybe he didn't tighten something.

What type of exhaust system do you have ?

In that case there is third metal exhaust gasket on passenger side that could be the culprit.

Increasing line pressure causes more wear on your forward clutches. Higher pressure than the stock solenoid is the main cause of clutch failure in the AODE / 4R70W transmission. Unless you plan on rebuilding your transmission every 50 thousand miles don't worry about the tire chirp.

One or two photos would tell us. Just post some pics! Top, Front and valve covers.
