View Full Version : Retrofitting a newer Ford radio with mp3 or SYNC capability?

I was wondering if anyone knew what newer models of Ford vehicles have factory radios that have Ford SYNC capability, or at least an mp3 player input jack or USB charge station... It'd be great if we could just swap one out into the dash of the Marauder.

I'm not a big fan of the look of aftermarket radio systems, but using my mp3 player via one of those tape deck adapters is starting to look embarrassing. (I'd use one of those FM radio adapters, but living in between DC and Baltimore, it's almost impossible to not get some sort of interference static.)

Has anyone done this? What models of Ford vehicle radio will work?

Thanks!

What kind of FM transmitter are you using. Some are much better than others.

I'm afraid to replace factory head unit too - for fear of loosing the steering wheel controls. Aftermarket ones are buggy.

Have to go with aftermarket if you want something good. I've been thinking about going to a junk yard, buying a newer Ford radio with the harness and retro fitting it to my car. But the Sync won't with our car, there is more than just a radio to the whole thing but some of the newer Ford radios can play mp3 on disc (6 disc in dash would rock).
