:help:Is there any secrets out there on installing a MM fuel pump"now that I have to do this". I did some searching and and all I found was that I didn't have to pull the tank all the way"just lower it a little with the saddle strap nuts" and take the pass side tire off for better access. Is this accurate?:)

I didn't even need to lower it when I put my Ford GT pump in for my Vortech. I think I had the old pump out and the new pump in in under 40 minutes. It takes a little trial and error to find the right angle to get the old unit out and the new one in, but it's not at all bad. I got to it directly underneath the car, just put it on jack stands and then slid underneath. Did not need to take wheels off.

I did have to loosen the nuts on the straps so I could drop the tank just a little bit for access to disconnect the wiring connector. Not a big deal, just don't take the nut all the way off. Make sure you don't have much gas in the car. If you're just doing a stock replacement you may not even need to disconnect the wiring on top of the tank, just pull the hat and drop it down on the floor (on some rags) and swap the pump, then put it back in. The hard plastic hoses may need some good hose clamps to hold it together tightly after it has been removed & re-installed. Be sure to get the high pressure clamps for power steering hoses and fuel lines, they have a solid metal band and don't eat into the hose.

I'm going to do an exact replacement, everything, I already made a jack assembly to loosen the straps and I can lower the tank slowly. I have less than 1/2 tank of fuel in. Dunno, I'm going to wing it, I'll let you know about the "hopefully not a disaster" tomorrow.:beatnik: But again thanks for the input.:)

If you drop the tank all the way out.... you WILL need to get new studs from Ford for the upper strap.
There is NO POSSIBLE way to get the straps back on without the new studs. They are extra long and you break off the ends after the installation is complete.
Don't drop the tank if you don't need to, or you don't have the studs yet.
