Hey,

Replaced my stock tires at 33K with the g-force KDW/2's (NT's). Looked a lot better and handled way better. I went with 255's in the back and was glad I did.

Knew all about the front toe being off on our cars and paid attention to the inside wear on the original fronts, but it never got too bad. Stupidly didn't pay as close attention on these and the damned inside fronts are shot at 21.5K on the tires with cord showing. The middle and outside tread looks fine. Can't even see the wear from outside the car, but once you get down and look...

Backs still look perfect with maybe 3-4 32nd's left. I run 36 lbs all around.

Anyway, I guess close to 22K isn't too bad, but at $209 a pop for the g-force I'm looking at these today instead:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Exclaim+UHP

This looks like a good tire and the price is right. Directional and high performance summer tire with nice tread. Any thoughts?

I searched but didn't find anything here. I did see Zack mentioning some Falkens? (spelling may be off.) All input is welcome.

BTW, took my car to the dealer with the alignment info I've had for years from this site (can't remember the poster) and asked him to set it up that way. (0.0 degrees toe IIRC.) I only got him to do it once I showed him the tire wear on the inside fronts, as even with that wear the car was still "within factory specs."

He said something about the wear improving on the highway, but that "parking lots will eat up the tires", by which I guess he meant that they won't do as well in turns. (?) I don't know enough about it to say, but the factory alignment was hell on those grippy fronts...

Thanks,

Norm

I had General Grabber UHP 255/55 on the rear and I couldn't wait to replace them. They had horrible sidewall flex. Go with the Nitto 420's or 455's. I have the 420's on the rear in 255/55 and they are much better than the Generals but still not as good as the KDW2's. If they still made the KDW2's in 255/55 size I would have bought them again. Those sidewall stiffeners made a huge difference.

off subject so, sorry but I have a friend that lives in Salinas and he says the the same thing that you say in your "location". Be safe man.
Did just buy Nitto 255's though, so I guess I'll have messed up front tires to look forward to

Hey, thanks for the info but you know they still do make the KDW/2's in 255/55. America's Tire here in Salinas has them, and so does Tirerack, at least they showed them tonight. Let me know if I'm of base.

I'll check out the Nitto's, thanks very much.

Thanks for the good wishes! I'm a big believer in superior firepower, and in this place you need it. I have some good solid ideas on how to fix the gang problem, but unfortunately ...:censor:, well, let's just say people think they're a bit extreme.;)

I had some gang guys driving a $45,000 Lincoln get the McGard locks off my wheels in less than 5 minutes, so switched to the Gorilla locking lug nuts. At least they'll have to work a bit harder.

People in this town will steal the paint off a fire hydrant. Great weather and pretty place, but I can't wait to move.

(Plus as soon as I get out of state I can finally put a decent exhaust on my car...! You wouldn't believe how much work I had to go to get it smogged for the first time last week.)

I ran those on my 2K Mustang GT. They were comfortable, had nice grip and fairly quiet when new. However; after putting on about 10-12k they got louder and tread wears out pretty quick. Maybe got 20k out of them. Of course I commuted 60 miles a day through rolling hills, straightaways and leveraged the full capacity of that 2V 4.6!

Good info, thanks! I've read other reviews that say they get pretty loud.

You know, I'm starting to think that 22K out of the KDW2's wasn't that bad...

They are great summer tires and pretty inexpensive just got to live with it after about 10k. For some reason I remember the ride suffering (my ARSE hurt) around the 12-15k mark....

Falken Ziex S/T Z01 are a good chioce as...accorrding to Falken's site... they are a Street SUV tire. So they should be able to handle the weight of the Marauder.

Search for Falken Ziex on the site and you'll find info on them.

These were the tires I meant http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/overview/g-force-t-a-kdw/22.html
They were the best tires I had on this car yet but now they don't have our size.

BFG does not make the KDW2 255/55-18 size tire anymore they still make the front size 235/50-18.

Despite all the carping about the BFGs they are darn near unbeatable in sidewall rigidity. I can feel flexy sidewalls from the drivers seat. I don't like them.

Especialy with the kevlar sidwall reenforcment and the rim protector lips.

I have taken some corners prety fast at times and never once lost a bit of control and never once had a tire squeel no matter how much turning force I put them through. And in the rain I have never felt any difference in the grip.

Ya the extra cash can be a pain at first but considering the milage rating the tires have you more than get your money's worth out of them over all.

Yeah, I think the Goodyears are my #1 candidate for the next set of rears. Hopefully at least 30K miles down the road. Meanwhile, I'll try upping the air in the Yokohomas from 36 to 38. Should help.
