M5 Encounters
<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ccffff; COLOR: #ccffff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Was getting on Rte. 285 eastbound off GA400 the other night. The weather was cooler/less humid than normal (The Banshee likes to stay out of the 90's F).

So I'm merging onto 285 and I catch a silver sedan cutting a streak down the middle of the highway. The road was relatively empty(which at 7:30pm is rare here- Must be alot folks on vacation) so I put the foot in it, and close the gap.

As I get closer I see that its an E60......... I'm thinkin hmmmm. may have bitten off more than I can chew here but oh well. As I'm coming up on his "six" he stabs the brakeshttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif No reason to do that other than a fast mover in his rearview that he did not expect to be there. I pull up along side him and the guy is stiff as a board looking straight ahead. He finally looks over at me. I wave, and he has this pissed of look like "damn thought you were a police officer" (Think his ego would have been better off if I washttp://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)

Anyways he is totally out of his M5 persona now, and is just putting along around 70mph. I give him another wave and a smile and move on.

Not as an exciting read as to have been there, but I'm sure ya get the idea.

2 days coming down GA 400 off the Holcomb Bridge Hill An E39 M5 (with what looked to be an aftermarket stainless exhaust setup and who knows what else) and I had a pretty good go in light traffic. The Banshee can hand him his ass up till 110mph or so in a straight line, this particular M5 had a top end & handling advantage. While I would not call it walking away, if we had more room, he would inch away from me past 110-115mph I'm pretty sure.

Still he was straining to maintain his pace(as noted by the barely noticable poofs out the exhaust at each shift), and probably pretty surprised that a old man's car could hang in with the almighty M5.

I recently saw a race video from somehwere is Russia where a 1000 hp GT and a 750hp Porsche Turbo ran a flat mile all out. (GT caught the Porsche after getting a handle on traction) I would love to line up an M5 or 2 and see what we can see. I think I would loose, but not be much. Sure would not be worth the delta in price to own an M5 thats for sure:burnout:

Anywho....Thats my fun for the week.

Ahh, the elusive M5... Currently second in my heart only to the much more elusive, yet much more affordable Marauder. :)

M5 is one of my favorite cars. 4 door sedan with 400hp. the Marauder has more room in it, and is about 25,000 less I figure

The cool thing about Atlanta is that M5's are all over, and the roads for the most part are in good shape.

285 is not the best in some places and if its raining there is standing water to look out for, but otherwise its a great driving when you are out of gridlock.

There is also a ton of Euro Import performance cars here, so there is no shortage of action. So much so, I don't play much with Mustangs, Chargers or Asian imports. I mostly look for Euro Iron with someone who appears to own the car they are driving (don't want to play with jr. in daddy's Mercedes:rolleyes:.

A coworker gave me a ride in his new supercharged Jag XF today. Very nice car. Really refined, and solid. We did not pop it too hard, but you could tell it has chops. Bet it will be even faster @ 50k miles.:burnout:My new favorite Euro 4door that I might have a chance of owning some day:beer: Those S & E AMG's are just out of my league cost of ownership wise:bigcry:

Yes the new Jags are sweet. I saw a twin turbo diesel Jag on top gear that was getting about 41.5 MPG!! (0-60 in 5.9 seconds) I'd like one of those some day.

The 5 series is the one that BMW had the most mechanical problems with. Just FYI. Plus. All German cars are made for the "Autoban" Much greater top ends for sure. No where like that in the US.
