Yes, that's right! You can run Motorcraft 5w20 FULL Synthetic oil in your MM!

Just saw it Advance Auto Parts, my FLAPS.

The best thing is it's $2.50 to $3.00 cheaper by the quart than Mobile 1!

Look for the gold top bottles.

Yup, been using it for a while, and am well satisfied with it.

They put that in mine last week at the dealer w/o even asking. Told me that I wouldnt have to change it every 3K miles, but instead every 5K miles. oil is almost transparant.

You should be good to more than 5k on synthetic...

Oh, I'm sorry. How about this. I don't care what claims are made by any oil manufacturer. Those of you that mod your cars or even stock for that matter should change your oil at around 3,000 miles. If you haven't seen firsthand what oil contamination can do to an oil pump, cylinders, lifter valleys, or cams; then you by all means, change your oil past 5k or so.
Personally I dissect my oil and check for metal fragments and shavings, along with a magnetic drain plug at every oil change. Sometimes I even cut open the oil filter.
My car just hit 40k miles, is an 03 and is going on seven years old. You trying to tell me that my car only needed eight oil changes in its life so far? No thanks.

Jim can the people with Superchargers us this oil? I have been sticking to 5W-30 Mobile 1.

Cars can last just fine with 5,000 miles if it's stock I believe. My dad said though out the years car companies kept bringing the number down to get more money. 7,000 5,000 now 3,000. I just use the oil until it looks black or 3,000 miles in the Marauder. The Blazer is fine with 3 oil changes a year or so.

"Ford Motor Co. recommends 7,500 miles between changes on its newer models, and Mercedes-Benz allows intervals of 10,000 miles with synthetic oil."

Today's oils have far better additives to prevent sludge buildup, plus manufacturers are running much thinner oils because the gaps between moving parts are so much smaller in newer engines.

In Europe, oil change intervals are longer, up to 12,000 miles. The oils used in Europe are of higher quality because Europeans are willing to pay more for their oil changes, sometimes up to $100.

Synthetic oil resists oxidation better than conventional oil and can withstand higher temperatures. It also has higher levels of detergents and dispersants that prevent engine deposits such as sludge.

But some Consumer Reports' tests with taxicabs in 1997 showed no performance difference between synthetic and mineral oil, and no difference between brands as long as the oil met industry standards.

Personally, I love my car to much not to change it out every 3K miles with synthetic oil. Cheap insurance, also gets it into the dealership for them to check over every 6 months or so.

Actually, to get the best value and protection out of your oil, changes should be condition-based, not time-based.

Sending a sample out for analysis and then changing oil out based on the results of the analysis is the best way to go.

That said, I'm running Motorcraft 5W-10 changing on a 5,000 schedule.

No way in Hell.

Blackstone labs analyzed my oil and recommended that I extend my oil changes to 6K.

Yes you can use it with the SC.

Best thing to do is get your oil analyzed. I use Blackstone Labs.

If you change your oil every 3k anyway, I can see little if no advantage to using pure synthetic over the normal synthetic blend.

Motorcraft, Mobil 1 or RP 5W-20 whatever I can get I use and change every 5k miles. Oil doesn't start to breakdown until 3500-4000 miles in mine.

I'm running regular 5-20 and my oil analysis states I can run to 5500 - 6000 miles. I change at 5000 miles.

Uhhhh, yup....:o

Anyway, your comments about Blackstone Lab is right on target, Jim. Condition-based versus maintenance is the best way to go, especially when it comes to fluids and lubricants.

The engineers at GM also agree. My dad's new Chevy truck calculates its own oil change interval every time according to how you drive, temp, etc, and then lights up the check engine light when its time to do an oil change. But apparently the shade tree can make you smarter than them.

Mobil 1 also has an extended life synthetic that they say is good for 15k miles.
