With all that smoke...no wonder we have 'global warming'!!
BTW: Using this insider information, I am going to buy some stock in Goodyear.

Doesn't age affect the rubber?
I have OEM tires on my MM and I am worried about the rubber dry rotting (not in the sun just age).
Not a problem?

UV light, heat and ozone degrade rubber.
If the tires were stored inside an enclosed warehouse with an HVAC system I wouldn't worry much about dry rotted tires....
unless maybe they are going on 10 years old or more.
I sold both OEM sets (front & rear) of tires from my (Fall 2002 build) Marauder in the last year and they were in perfect shape.
I keep my Marauder in a temperature controlled garage, away from sunlight.
Besides, they won't be on Jake's Marauder more than 3 months!....:P

Time to go shopping...I'm just not crazy about buying tires that have been sitting around a warehouse for three years in god knows what conditions.

I still have your 02-dated rears on my car! They have been ROCK hard for a while, lol, they have tread on them but they are weather checked in the treads and I can spin them from a roll. Age definitely plays in and I didn't used to bother reading DOT codes.
Unless you can keep tires in an ozone free environment, they are gonna get hard over time whether they are inside (my car is garaged 24/7) or not. 3 year old tires are not a problem if you plan on using them up quickly, but 6 years is pretty much a realistic max so if you plan on putting 60k miles on those tires they are probably going to be weather checking rock hard tires before you wear them out by mileage. But it doesn't sound like Doom is going to make those tires last 3 more years anyway

stop running only 255 on the rear and they won't burn off so fast :P:D

The guys running 295s seem to burn them off just as quickly because they are trying to!

I also have widend rims with nitto 305 extreme drag radials.
Those tires are bald too! :burn:
Tires just got here :woohoo:

No...no....you are mistaken!
It's because it was a cold night when you bought them from me....:o
Glad to hear that they are still alive!
Is there any tread left on them?
Stranger in the Black Sedan

Yeah there is plenty of tread, although like any other stock rear I have seen, they wear on the centers more. There is probably 25% left on the centers before they hit the wear ribs and like 50%+ on the edges. I bet I have one of the very few sets of 02 dated rear tires that are still DOT legal to run (not on or past the ribs!). But I don't do burnouts with this car, its NA so I have nothing to prove with it. I definitely almost took the car out doing a 1-2 shift on slightly damp road and got massive wheelspin shifting at WOT and got er really loose. Time for tires but I am trying to decide on a matching set of 4 but I haven't made my mind up yet.

woohoooo...just ordered a set for the rears here also....$111 ea plus like 40 for shipping...wicked cool deal...Now I can retire the Nitto 420S's to the spare rims and not feel bad about burning them up at the dragstrip!
Thanks Doom- you rock!

No doubt!
To paraphrase Mad Max: " The LAST of the 245 KDWS tires!
You should save them for the future when Marauder owners who compete in Concours car shows need correct date coded parts!
I just saw a set of date coded NOS BOSS 429 plug wires for only $4200!

You know what, you're right. Not kidding either, I work on old stuff too and see what people pay for date coded this and that. I should have new tires well before these rears are too worn to be useable. I will have to have them vacuum bagged and find someplace safe to store them for 30 years. At that point we won't be driving internal combustion engine powered cars anyway!

Heh heh...we think alike lowbuck....mine should get here tomorrow. Switching the old Nittos to the spare rims at the local TintMasters...and may get totally weird (ok- weirder) and put some red or maybe green food dye into a solution and then soaking the old tires in it so I can smoke the daylights out of them in a colorful way at the track :D I read how to do this awhile back and forget exactly how its done (mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol maybe)

How are these tires so far you guys? I need a new set of rears on my new ride and was looking at these goodyears since this is the same as the front tire. Just wondering how they were are far as ride quality so far and if the rubber had hardened at all. Probably order a set at the end of the week.

agree 100%...I love them so far...I autocrossed the daylights out of them over the weekend and they grip like crazy. My Nitto's were getting a bit old and noisey so its like night and day. I only hope they wear as well as the Nitto's did.
Mine last about 4 months. :D :burn:

Going to order a set this weekend. I'll have matching front and rears then. Once these are gone it will be time for Nitto 555s all the way around.
