Just got the new Nitto NT555s mounted. They look great (especially the fat rears). Compared to worn out OEMs, they are noticably quieter, and smoother riding. As expected, turn in is not quite as crisp. Also, once turning, the force to turn the steering wheel feels lighter (didn't expect that). Neither of these are objectionable, though. Grip is noticably higher. Overall, I'm very happy with them so far.
Sizes are 255/45/18 front and 295/45/18 rear (widened).

:burnout: :D

Have you spun them? Do they chirp nicely into second or at least a bit when you gun it from a stop? Or are they quiet like the BFGs?

555's ftw!!!

nt05 ftw!!!

555's are much better then stock. Mickey Thompson Drag radials have extreme grip on dry payment and are considered the street racers tire of choice, but they are not a good all weather tires. The deep tread of the 555 makes for a fantastic high milage tire and offers good performance in most conditions. Depending on your HP and driving habits you might consider something different. The NT05 is the answer for improved performance in a street radial over the 555.

They do make noise. 1-2 upshift is a nice loud bark. I suspect they will quiet down as they get broken in, though.

I have run the same setup as you have for 4 years now and gone through 3 sets of fronts!! I will tell ya the DO GET NOISY after about 10K miles as they cup out.....they do it on the rears as well but not as bad as the fronts!!:shake:

Any unidirectional tire will do it so I got Kumhos on the front now and can switch them from side to side every 5K miles or so and hopefully keep them quiet??

The Kumhos are much quieter and smoother than the Nittos but I only have about 2500 miles on them now.....I'll let you know how they work out!!

ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THE BFG's.....PERIOD!!!!:argue: :mad2: :censor:

Are you running the OEM alignment specs? Since going with Carfixer's specs my front OEM tires are wearing like iron.

Update - checked the speedo as the Nittos are slightly smaller diameter. Before with the OEMs, the speedo was dead on against my gps. Now at 66 indicated, the gps says 65. I can live with that.

After the first couple hundred miles, they seem to be getting quieter when I romp on it. Still chirps strong on 1-2, but not as loud as at first. Power slides - can barely hear the tires over the exhaust now. They do stick much better than the OEMs when you get sideways. Slower breakaway and hook up quicker. Still a lot of fun!

Mine don't squeal at all......more of a rushing sound while spinning wildly!!!

I have OEM alignment with a few minor touch-ups of my own.....0* tow!!

Unidirectional tires will cup out on a trailer or rear axle......always had that experience!!:argue: I like to be able to at least move them side to side......evens out weird wear and extends useful life!!

Please don't refer me to some tire chart...

What are the largest and TALLEST tires that can fit on standard and widened wheels (front and back)... I want to maintain the rake (tall rear end) and I want to fill the wheel wells as much as possible. I am old school and look at tires to see if they need pressure (and the low profile OEMs always look flat)...

So far I think (on non-widened wheels) you can go 285/55/18 Continentals on the rears and 245/55/18 on the front

Am I right? tallest and widest possible (safely) please?

THANKS !!!

yes we need pics

I'll try to get some this weekend and post them.

Of course, that means I'm gonna have to wash it first. Can't post pics of it dirty. I'd catch heck on here... :D

285 on a stock width wheel, not a good idea. Why do so many people want to do this? The wheel and tire work in conjunction and making only one of the two a lot wider than the other is not a performance enhancing situation

Don't you mean 295 on stock width wheel. On another note I have another set of wheels to mount. Are you up to the challenge. I need to mount two 295/50/16 tires in the next couple of weeks. These wheels are not mounted on the car.

He said 285, I assume it exists since he mentioned it, I didn't look it up to verify.

What is the offset on those wheels and what are they for? Are they for the Marauder? The offset was so close to putting the 295 tire into the side of the balancer before, that if the wheel has any more offset than your widened wheels, its gonna hit. If they have the same or less offset it should be okay

Agreed, this doesn't work well. The sidewalls should be darn near vertical to properly resist lateral forces.

If you want wider tires, get wider wheels too. Of course, there are issues with finding the right offset so as not to increase the scrub radius. And then there are clearance issues.

Really, the wheels/tires on the Marauder are wide enough for reasonable performance use.

I hate the size and height of my OEM tires...

The low profile makes them always look flat or low on air even at 40 psi. I want the tallest and widest tires possible. I heard that regular wheels can take 245-50-18 front and 285-55-18 rear CONTINENTALS

Anyone want to confirm this? Adam and Trash have this set up...

What is the largest, widest, and tallest tires you can put front and back on widened rear wheels?

THANKS

and the tire matrix chart makes no sense to me...please give me size numbers and brand names

I could not find the conti's but these pirelli's in the same size will fit an 8" rim. The more sidewall they have, the smaller rim width you can get away with.
These are about 2" taller then stock though!!! That's like going from 3:55's to 3:27's. (actually, a little more then one gear size down, about 6.9%. Usually one gear size is 5%)

guess im the only one that think they have no grip. Had bfgoodrich kdw2's were alot better for grip, these nitto555 dont heat up quick and spin way to much.

Another observation - took her on a road trip the last couple weeks, and hit some real heavy rain. Didn't feel as planted in heavy rain as the OEM tires did at highway speeds. Not a huge difference, but it was noticable enough that I backed off on the speed 5-10 mph. Still overall, I'd buy them again.
Mileage doesn't seem to be affected, either. Got what I usually get on the highway.
Haven't been able to get some pictures up yet. Will try again this weekend.

I ran 285/50/18's on the back of my other car, they were FINE. I ran that car to 150, auto-x'd it and ran the piss out of it. The tires didn't roll/didn't wear funky... they were great. I'd have them on this MM too but the specific tire I was running was discontinued :(
