View Full Version : Ok, why has my car died twice in two months!

Both times i was making a right from a dead stop, got her straightened out and pegged it to the floor. All was good, tires were blazing and bam! engine off, only idiot lights. Shift into neutral and try to restart and just crankety crank crank! Pull over, put her in park, just more cranking...... Wait about 15 seconds, she roars to life immediately and off I go trying to copy what I did only to accomplish nothing but another set of long black stripes.

My first two guesses, as I can't exactly diagnose something that isn't broke is the chip (which is cleaned and duct taped down VERY well) or the fuel pump cut off switch starting to go? I made the mistake of removing the chip a year ago and not retaping it down tightly and she died three times before I could even get to the water box, so I have learned better since then, but this does feel the same. It is an instant off, kinda like my last engine in my camaro that decided to sleep with the fishes at 80 MPH, not the kinda shut down when you run out of fuel.

She is going in for a dyno on the 4th and being switched over to my xcal.

Has anyone had the same experience?

i had my chip in my bird come loose or something. it didn't just die. it ran rich as hell cause it thought it had 36# injectors instead of 60#ers. something you can try thats easy. pull the vacuum line off the fuel press sensor, turn the key on and see if fuel squirts out. if it does its bad. that usually kicks a code tho.

Thanks guys, I agree it sounds like more of an electrical issue. I'm gonna have alot of the engine apart again here next week and I'll double check the harness and connectors again.

Bob,

Check your wiring harness on the driver's side under the wiper assembly. Some early 2003 had a problem with the harness rubbing and wearing through, causing engine stalls and tranny problems. They fixed this problem in later builds. Look for exposed wires there, in the harness bundle that runs through there.
