I've been working on this shot of my stepdaughter. The original pic showed every blemish and freckle, so I'm trying to smooth out the skin and give her a glowing complexion. Before I send it to her, I was just wondering, if it worked, or did I overdo it?
I have looked at it way too long to know. :)
Thanks!

John, a beautiful shot! For me, you may have gone a little too far in smoothing ,as far as some of the facial definition goes.

^^^I agree, you bleached out her complexion too much.

Putting together to better see.
I agree with Paula, she's lost the cheek definition on her left side, which makes her face look wide and disproportionate. Forehead is too flat too. Touching up is very time consuming. The whole picture is a little to light and you've lost the vibrant colors in her top. She's a great subject! Keep it up, John!

Looks great to me. Love the eyes and the lightening that you did on her hair. Nice job!!! IMHO -- by slurring the colors on the blouse, the focus is drawn much more to the face --- less distracting than the original.
Neat work (as always), but I like the original. Could just be a guy thing but I'm all for natural beauty. Touch up a picture of Rex instead, muhahahaa!!

I greatly appreciate all of the comments. I'm still learning this portrait stuff, and all of the post processing that goes with it. I think I do much better with cars.
I was afraid that I had gotten a little carried away with the face, which it appears that I did. I may start from scratch and see if I can come up with something a little more natural looking. It is time consuming, but I guess I still need some practice.
I'm really impressed with your comments. Some of them are quite detailed, and should really help. Thanks for the advice from our lady members. You girls know this stuff much better than us guys do. ;)

Here is another version, that I hope looks a little better. I tried to go a little easier on the face with the smoothing. I changed the crop a little, and I'm not sure I like that as much, but I was trying to emphasize the longest part of her hair.
Anyway, hopefully the face looks a little more natural. :)

BINGO!! You got it, John! The detail and contrast is there, just softly blended but still defined. Love the natural skin tone. Freckles give character! You brought out some highlights in her hair but didn't make it too red. Softening and minimizing the wispies around her left forehead worked. She will really like this!! Bravo!

I must say I like the last pic the best...although she does look kind of Angelic in the first pic...

Looks like the earring goes through the ear twice: once through the lob and a second time through the cartilage. That must have hurt!
