Hi Guys,

Justin at D'Agostino just deleted my order for Stainless Works Long Tube Headers because... they would take the better part of a month to get shipped. He couldn't find replacement shorties either: Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I could not fined any shorty headers for your car. I will go ahead and refund you the different on the headers and the shipping.

I'm a patient guy and don't mind waiting for something good, but next month I'll be working out of State and won't be around then to finalize the exhaust customization. This implant isn't a plug and play deal and even being here I am banking on a fair share of complications to attend to. Also, I've been told that I need to get the car out of the mechanic's driveway and the new Marauder engine off his shop floor asap.

So it looks like Kooks or maybe a cheaper - if less powerful - option of FRPP Cobra Shortie Headers might be the only way to compromise. Kooks are almost as pricey as the Stainless Works headers and don't fit nearly as easily. Maybe dropping the cost almost as much as the horsepower would compensate the disappointment.

Other than Glenn here (see his post) http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showpost.php?p=785171&postcount=132 has anyone else fitted and dyno tested the cobra setup on a Marauder? It seems that other cobra exhaust parts might also be cheaper and easier to fit behind them?

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts. The plan was to fit the headers to the new engine BEFORE installing it to keep labor down. Also this allowed for a single SCT chip payment for final tuning rather than having to repay SCT for everything a month or two down the road once the exhaust has been changed.

I guess I could tow the car into storage for a few months until I get back and load the engine onto a pallet and ship it somewhere temporarily. All this because they carry zero stock on the Headers they offer for sale and take forever to handle orders and fabricate.

It's got me thinking of scrapping the entire project and saving the engine for later use in 5 year old high mile V6 Mustang, ending the Mutant Marauder dream for good. Hopefully in a few days I'll have cooled down. And possibly a solution will appear on the horizon.

Thanks for your advice on the Shorties!

Something is not right with your vendor. He has a reason for what he did? Call SSW directly and see if the headers are available for the VC/MM. I bet they are available. FRPP Cobra headers are readily available - search for FRPP dealers in your area and call them.

LTs work best for NA cars. In a situation like yours with the engine out I would try for the LTs if you have the extra money. The Cobra shorties will bolt up to the Cobra hi-flow CAT X-pipe. But the x-pipe will require a 4" extension due to the extra length of the MM wheelbase. The shorties do not lose that much power to LTs with boost under 450 HP. But, no one whats to believe the published dynos or look at my Sig.

Good Luck for your project.

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for your really fast response! Lately things haven't been going so smoothly so I thought that it was par for the course. Your post really perked me up. The car is staying a natural so Long Tubes would really make the difference plus I don't really need as much power as you guys with blowers. The thump of my stock tuned Stang is already enough for my use in country byways, with hills and gullies around every bend of the road. So a 4-door sedan with 350+ will suit me fine. :D

I'll call SW tomorrow morning and see if they have a different story. If it can be shipped out at a reasonable date then indeed there IS a Marauder God.

I've recently read in a Mustang forum that H-Pipes are best used with Chambered Mufflers like Flowmasters but that X-Pipes work better with thru flow mufflers like Borlas. Since I plan on high flow a straight thru X-Pipe or a catted X-Pipe would be in the works.

If you've got some info on X-Pipes, let me know as my learning curve is on a low slope given that up to now I had planned on fabricating an H-Pipe and didn't do the homework.

Best,

Vic

As Glenn said, best to contact SW directly, if they still can't meet your schedule requirements get Kooks. The performance gains of the two are virtually the same. SW are supposedly a little easier to install, I don't know as the Kooks are the only ones I've installed myself.

As for the shorties, apparently DAR doesn't know what is required to fit them in a Marauder. That's what happens when you go with a Mustang shop for Marauder mods. Many threads on here describe the necessary mods, but in a nutshell put a 1/4" thick shim/washer under the driver's motor mount, modify the Cobra x pipe by cutting it and adding extensions so it doesn't hit the crossmember.

Not all vendors are created equal.

Rich, I too run Stainless Works long tube headers. They have made my right foot bad to the bone. I will never look back or question my choice.

Exactly--I have the shorty's and mine is shimmed up a bit to allow for the steering and crossmember--a bit odd looking but its kicks axx....

Hi FordNut,

Seems that you guys had it figured. Bill at SW took my order over the phone. This cuts the delivery time in half so it should get here before I'm gone.

This way I'll keep the installation simple as my country mechanic looked surprised when I handed him the Steeda pulleys today, he's more of a fixer than a modder and I hope he can figure out how to install the Evenflow kit and PHP Spacer. Luckily the Evenflow came came with an intallation CD and he's finally got a computer.

Hi Burt,

What do you run behind your long tubes? There are a lot of options in terms of Cats, X-Pipes and Mufflers. Here are the latest I'm toying with buying:

Spun metallic cats like those sold by SW with their headers:

http://www.planetmagnaflow.com/shop/Spun-Cat-100.html

This was the picture what had me rooting for them, they look so easy to place just about anywhere on the pipes, but they've got no oxygen sensor bung:

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/2/7/5/exhaust-cats.jpg

There are also these polished stainless cats said by Magnaflow to be hi-flow and they can be fitted with air bungs:

Any ideas on which Cats would work best?

TIA
