First off I must explain the event briefly. I went to a cruise for a friend of a friend of a friend who died who happened to be a gearhead. He was shot because he refused to let a gang steal his car and ended up paying for it with his life. :(
Well the gathering in the parking lot when the cruise first started totaled around 30 Imports. Some were pretty cool and some were bone stock, but no one was stuck up or anything. Me and my friend were the only people with American cars and I was actually passing off that my car was an Import too since it was built in Canada... they all thought it was funny. I start talking to the guys with WRX STI's and was actually correcting a few of them on what was an STI and what was simply a WRX. They were happy to learn, but this was one guy... not the whole group.
So I see a Acura with a turbo charger and Lambo doors and I go up to him to make a conversation. Like it or not the guy put time, money and thought into his car just like most of us have. We talk and I say I have the Mercury and we walk over to it to show him my blower and the car itself. About ten people come over and they like it. Some are even taking photos. My friend said to turn on the 100 Watt P.A. and I'll get their attention. I didn't think about it, but I turned it on and said "You are all under arrest." I'll never forget the reaction. People came up to the car like Birdfeed dropped in front of a bunch of Pigions. Now they were all checking it out and a few people said my car was now their favorite of the whole "show" if you wanna call it that. Around 50 people gathered at once, I'll never forget that site. A few minutes later the guy in the Acura turned on his car and reved his engine. I took a look at it and proceeded to walk to mine, now about 30 people were like "OOOOOOO!!!!" Like I just insulted the guy by walking towards my car. I gave it a good rev and one group asked me to do it again so they could get the sound recorded on video tape! :) Again everyone loved it, I guess they weren't used to American cars or maybe they got too much taunting and not enough interaction with American car drivers. Either way they dug it and wanted more. :D
The cruise began and we took quite a few pictures and stopped to talk about cars and everything. I talked to almost all of the kids and before I knew it they were inviting me to hangout with them and go to the race track in a few weeks. I hope to have photos soon and I'll post them, we have quite a few good pictures, but around 1:30 AM we got kicked out by the police for taking up an area afterhours..... but they were cool cops like most are. They said we had five minutes to take photos and we had to leave. On the way back we had some fun.
Heading north on LSD (Lake Shore Drive) the Turbo TL pulls up next to me and I yell at him we should run from 30-70. I honk 3 times and I'm off. By the time I hit 70 he's 12 car lengths behind me. He comes back up to me and we try it again, 10 cars this time. Finally he says just to yell to 3. I do and I take him by 9 car lengths. He said he needed to work on his car. He was smiling, laughing and had a great time. Little did I know about 3 Nissan 350Zs were following us from the event and filmed everything. As they drove by they were filming my car and gave me the thumbs up.
Even when I shut them down, they still dug the car. Everyone looked like they were straight out of Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. They were still cool people and I guess I thought them a thing or two also.
What a fun night!
P.S. I wouldn't call these people Ricers, I just did it for attention so you knew the type of people I was around. I honestly didn't think they would dig the car this much. I was wrong.
