I will try to make this as short as possible.
So about a week ago I notice my air conditioner not really pumping out cold air as I am used to in the automatic mode. So I dropped it a few degrees and that helped a little bit but it still wasn't cooling off like it should.
Today on my way home from the lake it felt like it totally crapped out, it was pumping in hot air. I turned it to MAX A/C and set it to 60 and it was intermittent with cold/hot air.
It's Florida, in the middle of summer... awesome.
I turned it off and used my dual open 50 A/C until I got home... then I noticed a noise. It sounded like roofers hammering nails.
DAMNIT....
I got home, popped the hood and listened for the noise. It started and it scared the crap out of me. Sounded like the inside of the engine was just ripping itself apart. I ran for the ignition key and just as I got there the noise stopped.
Stumped I left the engine run... purring like a kitten (74K miles BTW).
Then the noise started again.... then stopped. I looked around... waiting for the noise to return and when it did... I saw it.
It was the radiator fan kicking on, gaining speed and then it started to make the noise and then shut off.
So the fan is obviously busted and is making the noise. I believe this will also affect the A/C performance while sitting still.
Hopefully a new fan will fix this problem.
Any other insight from you guys?
