Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster.

To make a long story short, I have a 2003 black Mercury Marauder. Last September, Hurricane Ike did a number on my baby, causing the canopy at my home to fall on my car. Anyhow, it is now time to paint my baby.

In my town of Pearland, TX (south of Houston), there a a couple of blacks, 1 red, and 1 silver...but no blues (that I know of)...

Anyways, I love the blue, so I guess I would first like to know if anyone has gone from black to blue, and if so, any regrets or anything else I should know.

Secondly, if I stay with black, I may try pearl black? Has anyone tried that color or seen that color on a Marauder yet?

I went to a local paint shop, and the owner said that I need to stay with black because going with another color will bring about other problems and stuff (what exactly I do not know)....

I am fully open to suggestions.

I believe there is no problem with changing your car from black to blue. Make sure you trust this paintshop and trust their crafstmenship, quality, customer service, etc.
I don't know why a painter will tell you that its not a good idea to go from black to blue? especially without telling you why its a bad idea. Any color will be fine on your car as long as it's quality paint, good prep and a skilled painter.

I am pretty familiar with body shops, paint work, incidences and stories as I have many friends that work as body laborers and painters.

One advantage of keeping your car black is that you will not have to paint your jams again which will reduce the cost significantly. Other then that, like I said if it's a good paint shop there should be no problems with having it painted to blue, or any other color.

FYI. right when you see your car at the paintshop when its finished, take a reall good look at it for any imperfections or problem areas that your not satisfied with. You'll save your self alot of hassle by doing this instead of bringing your car back and complaining later on. I've heard of stories of people complaining after they took the car home already and the body shops will say that the customer did something, etc etc. Real talk... if you complain enough they will fix and repaint whatever mistakes they made. Keep in mind no aftermarket paintjobs are perfect.

Ive had my marauder painted by my friends at darcars. header panel, hood, rear bumper. Next parts I'm going to paint are the front bumper, and trunk due to the factory blistering issue because of the sealant that Ford used on their paint.

Just repaint it black but not the brown oem black.
Have you seen the new Metallic black that comes on Ford Fusions yet? Simply AWESOME!

I'm just down the road from you in Friendswood. There's not a blue one here, but there's one that visits frequently. Bobby (Racelegend79) lives up in Lufkin and has a blue and his in-laws live here in Friendswood.

I'm wondering if I've run into you at some point. Did I talk to you at LaCasita one day at lunch? I still don't have my car down here all the time so you may not have seen it.

There's a guy up in the Dallas area who bought a salvage (I think) Marauder had had it repainted. It's basically black, but it has a real deep maroon metalflake in it that's beautiful.

#1, none of the black MMs will ever speak to you or of you again if you paint it blue (me included)

#2, if you ever have to sell the car in the future, the color change, to someone who knows MMs, is going to detract from its value. Especially since black is the better color (well technically its a value not a color)

I believe BUCKWHEAT has a car that is painted metallic black, you should send him a PM.

Glad to see another Houston Member.

The Red one in pearland is probably my old car, which was wrecked in Jan 07, apparently someone just rebuilt it and retitled it.

Theres also another silver MM in pearland that sounds like its got an angry shop vac under the hood.

Logan had his 1st MM painted black.

Anyway, come to some of our meets. I'll be orgainizing one for late August, and then theres the Texas round up at the beginning of november!

Have you seen the SRT/8 300 C Pearl black? Quite sharp! Or go with the blackest of all, Buick Grand National black!

I saw a blue one one day getting off of 288 and onto 518...that may have been him. It was the only blue one I saw in person. I have never done lunch at LaCasita, but I am always going to or passing thru Friendswood. I live on the old side of Pearland, which is very close to Friendswood. If you have seen a Marauder with no front plate and a personalized plate...it was me.

I went back to the paintshop today, and he told me the same thing. That is why he suggested that I keep it black.

I doubt if the red one is your old one. I work with the guy at the airport. When I moved to Houston in 2006, he had his already. As for the silver one in Pearland, I never heard it, but it is always clean as hell. I think a lady drives it but I am not sure. As for the meets, count me in. Just let me know when and where and I will make it do what it do!

I have decided to go with the black for now (Pearl or Metallic or maybe even the Grand National Black).

Anyhow, now I must decide on the type of paintjob...One in which the clear coat is applied on the black paint, and the other in which the paint is applied with the black paint. I am new to the paint stuff, so which should I go for? What are the pros and cons of each?

Basecoat/Clearcoat is usually the way to go. Painting single stage with clear and the paint mixed together is the Maaco way to go, and it never looks as good IMO.

There must be two Silvers in Pearland then.

The silver trilogy is new to Pearland. Look for a 2nd DTR running around pearland too then! Tell your buddy about the meet!

Theres a silver one over here in Katy, but an old lady drives it. I know of 2 Black ones over here in the Katy area, and my Blue, but it rarely ever comes out.

base/clear for sure. You can't color sand and buff a metallic so if you ever get scratches in a single stage metallic that need to be corrected, you really can't. With base clear corrections in the future will always be possible. Single stage is used for two reasons, #1 in cheap paint jobs, materials for a single stage job are far cheaper than base clear by a huge margin, or #2 to achieve a certain look on restored or show cars (single stage without clear on top has sort of a more 2 dimensional old school look to it rather than the "under glass" look of base clear). Then there are some guys that do "base clear" jobs by clearing over a single stage but that is also usually done to save money over buying real base coat.

I would consider black with blue pearl. I have seen this on Logan's Marauder and thought it looked great.

I believe this is it out on the Brickyard:

The usual: Work, wife, kids...

I figured I would start trying to get caught up here since we are planning to catch Marauderville this year :banana2:

I always loved that paint job. I tried to find a pic of it on the site.

He had it black, colour sanded, then re-clear coated, but with clear pearl blue. It looked stunning.

Well, I am dropping off my car on August 10th. I am going to go the dual coat in either pearl black or solid black (Grand National). Now, I need to get my hands on some rims and exhaust tips (damaged in the storm). Once I get those out of the way, I can work on my tail lights, head lights, windows, etc.
