This was pretty easy overall! Thanks to this site for info on getting the Autometer #4327 kit. It was the last in town. I did bump into a couple minor issues though. The first was that I definitely wanted to use the original face. I found that with an old dull pocket knife, I could unbend the aluminum ring that's crimped over the plastic housing. It takes patience for sure! I only slightly unbent about half so if I messed up I could hide it at the bottom of the gauge. Another gift is that there's a second ring if mess up because you have to take both apart. Once you have that popped off, you can unscrew the faces, pull out the assemblies and carefully pop the needles off. I made a mark on the new gauge's case edge to know where the needle will point with power off. I used a piece of wire coat hanger bent in a u shape so I could get the stubborn original needle off without damage. Swapped the faces and cleaned the glass lens(I had to remove the ring again! Big black spec on the inside!), popped the ring/lens assembly back on. Now to remake the bevel on the ring, I used the edge of a spoon! Worked perfect! Now I noticed that the three wire I had were black, white/red and yellow/red. Pulled out the multimeter, plugged the harness in (without anything on the gauge yet), turned the key and found that the yellow/red in mine was the hot and the white/red was the sender. I assembled it all together and tested. Woohoo! Looks awesome! Even better since I replaced the burnt out bulbs! I just thought the bottom gauges didn't light up when I bought the car! :D Thanks MM.net!!!

Good Mod, I might consider this. About how much time did it take you? And is there a mod assembly with a lighted gauge that you can just snap in "that you know of".

Well, it is a lot easier if you don't take the steps to keep the original gauge faceplate. All you do then is swap out the sender unit under the oil filter, cut that wire, attach ring connector, hook up to the sender, remove gauge cluster, swap out the oil pressure gauge for the new one, cut the wire to the original, put ring connectors on the ends, hook to new gauge... tada! I wanted to keep the original gauge faceplate because it is backlit through the lines and numbers. The new gauge lights around the edge, the face is solid aluminum, no backlighting. Oh yeah, just in case, check the oil sender for any leaks after each drive for a bit. Just to make sure!

Ok....here's the real scoop. Just buy the AutoMeter 100 psi oil pressure sending unit (see their web site for part number) and install. Just remove the original Ford single wire connector and replace with ring connector.
YOU'RE DONE !! The Marauder AutoMeter gauge will now work just fine, no more locked reading at 60 psi.

I found the 100 psi AutoMeter sending unit on Amazon for $28.00.

I contacted AutoMeter via email and their rep verfied this method.

I noticed the coil in the original, but, no resistor, so I never bothered trying it. Opened them up anyway, not like it took long...

vtwoodsman, what do you get for readings? Cold start...hot idle...etc...

When I swapped in my ultralite II gauge, I did some tests with the old gauge. I connected +12V to one terminal, ground to a 2nd terminal, and to the 3rd terminal, I connected a variable 0-12V. I did this for all 6 combinations. In the 'normal' combination (+12V and ground where they connect to in the MM), zero volts indicated about -40 psi, while +12V indicated about +60 psi. While the range is about 100 psi, the needle was offset by about 40 psi on the low side.
I don't see how changing the sending unit could get it to read anything above the OEM 60 psi. But, it does seem easy enough to open up the gauge and 'twist' the needle into the correct range so it sweeps from 0 psi to 100 psi, instead of from -40 psi to +60 psi. Although, even if you did this, the gauge still has the 'dampening' built in, so you wouldn't see abrupt changes in oil pressure (like when you goose the throttle).

I wrote down the results of all of my tests, and have them at home, if anyone is interested.

For $35.00 each they will take a gauge of thier's you bought and make it match your dash in how it looks and light's up.

If you don't mind the extra cash and sending it to them and waiting to get it back would be a good thing to do.

All he told me to do is send them a picture of the dash guage's in the day time and night time look with the guage's you want to match.

Why in hell would you pay 35.00 for a bulb replacement. Secondly the Autometer II gauge has better lighting. .2 cents

I think thats more for swapping the factory face and needle into the new autometer gauge than just replacing the bulb.

I hope that's the case, otherwise it's a big rip off. :censor:

At night the numbers and indicator line's light up green while the face's stay white!

Here is a pic of my stock gauge's at night.

Which, other than the needle, is how our dash guage's pretty much look.
just using a differn't color bulb dosn't cut it the numbers and line's need to be made a transparent green and a white bulb is used to eluminate them and the needle.

That's cool if that's what you are looking for. Everyone has a point of view, but I prefer the autometer II gauge lighting. Bulb vs LED.

But have AutoMeter make it match the dash they even said they will have it say at the bottom (MM) Edition (Mercury Marauder).

I just like the idea of having a nice match for the Dash guage's and think the extra cash is worth it to make it look more stock not a change out to something else. Detail work like that can make a difference if you plan to show the car.

I have over 25 car awards and not once did anyone judge me for my gauge pod or console gauges. They liked the look of multiple gauges, but most could not tell if it's factory or aftermarket. Car show people could not tell you much about a Marauder. On the other hand if you can polish the rings around the gauge and insert a chrome face plate, then you might have a winner. Don't get me wrong I like your idea. In another life time or a second marauder I might consider your gauge suggestion.

I have to agree with LEO here. I wouldnt ever put any other gauges in the car unless they can match the face of the factory ones.

After reading his last comments it sounds like Autometer is willing to custom make a gauge face for you for only $35 bucks (like maybe make a boost or tranny temp guage to match the factory gauges)? I would say thats awesome for all of us, because now anyone that feels the need can customize their gauges to be different and some of us can have them custom made to look factory. Or did I totally misread that LEO?

Let us know if you have this done, and what the outcome is. In '04 another member made an inquiry to Autometer about doing this. I don't know if Autometer ever responded.

I have 2 project's on the car to finish before I can use money to get the new gauge's and have them sent and done at Autometer. It's too bad you can't buy them direct from them and just have them stay there and get the match work done but they said I have to buy them then at a dealer then send them to be done.

You can send an E-mail to joseph_mills@mail.autometer.co m to get any and all answers you need. We talked a lot and he love's our Marauder's and like's to mod his car's as well so a cool guy.

just shy of 50 PSI cold at idle, after warm up, a little above 25 PSI at idle.

vtwoodsman, if you're responding to my question about what pressure readings you're getting, your warm idle reading is about right, but the cold idle reading is wrong. You should have close to 100 lbs on initial start-up.

Well, it looks like the new gauge is toast! I received my X3 tuner yesterday and downloaded the Lidios tune. Played around on the streets for a bit testing her out and noticed ZERO oil pressure!!! Turned her off right in the street at a light!!! No pressure = engine death! Stomache turned all queesy, tried to clear my head and think. I turned the key far enough to power on and noticed the gauge was below zero and did not got to zero with the key on. WHEW! I pulled into a nearby parking lot and went over her quickly. Full oil, no leaks around the sending unit... Not sure if its the gauge itself or the sending unit. I'll find out this weekend.

I still like my Phantom II mechanical oil pressure gauge. It hasn't failed a true reading in > 65,000 miles......

Sorry you are having difficulty.

I just finished up and Eaton install on an 03 Marauder, and I have a boost gauge to go in place of the voltmeter. It's a pro-comp ultra-lite, but as this post states, it doesn't match perfectly. Sucks.

So, seriously though. You spoke to Autometer and they told you they'd be happy to make it match the stock gauges, but you have to buy one elsewhere and then send it to them?????? This makes no friggin sense at all. I'm going to try and call them tomorrow, but not sure I want to go that route. What a pain in the butt....
