I received my naz intake last week and today was the install day. Normally I would do a install thread but my desktop PC is down and I dont see why it would be needed for a pretty straight forward and easy install. Ill just get to the point.
I'm not sure if its just mine or this is a normal issue with these intakes but its Loud!! The lower half where its tig welded together is a pretty thin metal compared to the thick aluminum bottom of the stock intake. This is where my issue comes in. The sound resonates from inside the intake and makes a whistle/whine noise at lower RPM. I guess it would sound like a faint S/C whine or whistle. I cant explain it so Ill try to get up a sound clip. I know I have no leaks and everything went smoothly with the install. There is a definiate power increase within the mid to high range and I havent really noticed any loss of low end power. The engine spools up much faster now and it just pulls harder to redline. I know Ill have to raise my RPMs to get the most out of it, but so far besides the resonating noise from the inside of the intake, Its a strong SOTP difference.

Glad someone finally had good results with this intake.
One step closer to the 12's

Paul, are you going to re-dyno to see what it is actually making for numbers?

Dyno numbers would be interesting to know. Looks like you might be able to do that out in Indy Paul.

Today I heading home with a can of starting fluid, either there is a leak somewhere or Im going to have to pad the bottom of the intake for the noise.

This should have been done before the install, and after by a independent shop, I think it is a little late now.:( there is no way I can see a 30 RWHP gain, but I can be wrong the only true proof is before and after. And if there is I guarantee you his AF is off and probably lean, this can be checked with any Xcal 2 or 3 by monitoring STFT at part throttle and WOT and high way speeds.

Hmmm, makes me even more suspect of going this route. There has to be an air leak somewhere Paul. How many miles have you driven her since the install? May not have had time to throw a light yet.

Real PITA not having a dyno tuner in the area that knows how to tune a Marauder. Dennis, how bout moving to NYS?

dont know if you want to come to jersey but big daddy performance is a very reputable shop down here

I drove the car all night Saurday and no pings or any kind of noise besides the noisey intake sound. Im hoping its just a leak.

Any one in the New York area call Billy Madden of Madden Automotive and tell him I sent you or Tom Kaper at Kasper Automotive these are two honest straight shooters.

By NY area you mean NYC? I'm 5 hrs from there...

NY is huge, I may have to take it to JDM in NJ for a tune or wait for Indy.

OK heres the verdict. After spending a 1/2 hour being very aware of every little noise and looking for a leak spraying starter fluid in every little pocket I could find. I have come to the conclusion that the intake is not leaking. My idle is smooth as glass and the revs drop right down. If it was leaking I would have a higher rougher idle and the revs would hang up a little. None of that is the case.
The noise Im hearing is the air blowing around inside the hollow bottom of the intake. Its just a hollow ringing sound and the fact that I have such a free flowing air filter and intake tube seems to amplify it even more. I may try coating the bottom or trying something else to quiet it down. Im also leary that in the thread that shows how the intakes are built, it looks like the metal on my intake was much thinner then what was shown in the pics. Im going to do some research and find out if some of the stang guys noticed this.
Right now its a bit irritating to listen to.

This was a missed opportunity to dyno the car before and after to resolve the true HP value of the IT.

If money was an issue all Blacken had to do was to write a post. I would have gladly wrote him a $50 check. Missed opportunity to resolve an ongoing question.

I dont have a local tuner in the area to tune the car. Im still searching that out and its going to take time. I had the intake and I wanted to bolt it on to get that over with. I plan on doing headers soon and I dont see what its worth to throw away that money to tune the car twice.

I think there would be several members (me included) that would of paypal'd you some $$ to get a dyno for an accurate reading. Helps the community as a whole. Anyhow, i'll hook you up w/my tuner/dyno guys if still need be.

If your a/f numbers are good, its not leaking, but prob just the ringing of the welded on bottom. Is it obnoxious sounding or livable?

If anything, powder coat the bottom so it changes the resonance of the sound or maybe (lightly) run a rubber mallet around the metal bottom to change the "pitch" of the sound kind of like tuning a kettle drum. Maybe Naz can exchange yours for one with a slightly thicker plate welded onto the bottom.

This sounds like a good add-on and Naz knows his stuff, but chances are nobody hears what you are hearing since the intakes he makes are used on race cars more than street driven cars and the intakes are shaped different on 2v and 3v stangs so they dont have this problem when welded.

If you come down to Big Daddy, let me know and I will meet you there, we can go for cheesesteaks and beers!

I have no performance issues, my tune was a little fat to begin with so if it leaned my line out a little, its still within the safe zone.

I dont drive the car everyday but tonight Im going to make a video of what Im hearing and you guys be the judge of the noise. Its like blowing air into the bottom of a tin can.

BTW, if your wondering why Im asking this in a public forum and not in a private email its because I sent the email and had no response.

That is a very good point. So Paul to counter the intake noise you need to get headers and loud exhaust lol. Glad you got the intake and could notice a STOP feeling right off the back.

Ask Doom about my S/C whistle ROFL.

You are the tenth person to tell me to make the car louder lol
Is it your chin spoiler whistling?? Mine sounds like a turbo at 60mph

Nope, it doesn't come from the chin spoiler, it's a top secret bolt on. Its loud enough for people to ask me what kind of supercharger do I have on the car, not "is it supercharged?" lol

Just a thought here. How about adding some heat shield to the bottom of the intake? May kill the proverbial two birds with this one, isolating both the noise, and a little heat off the block.
