Got my Wes provided Megs tips installed today. Adds a nice increase to the MM rumble. I was worried it would be too loud, but am psyched at the result. Thanks Wes. Next step the tuner! Tim

think that going w/the tips that don't have resonators will do anything for performance, or is better sound the only benefit? I mean do you think that the resonators in the tip cause any increased back pressure?

No backpressure... supposedly the pipe just "continues" at the same diameter into the tip until about 2/3 of the way, then it ends, leaving only the tip as the diameter itself. The replacement tips mentioned here simply expand to the full diameter right away, and this has the effect of creating a resonator.

So, no performance advantage; just a little more rumble. Why I not remove the existing tips and somehow remove the pipe extension inside the stock tips? Seems to me that might be an option.

That could certainly be done, but is it worth the effort?

Bob,

No performance advantage...but, Wes has pure replacement tips or the ones without the baffles that you can have delivered for under $150. It might cost you most of that to have the "removal" done on the stockers...I don't know.

at 17,000 clicks my MM is loud enough...

True, that's part of the reason that I asked the question.

I don't think it's worth the effort to try and do this. If you look closely at the tips, the outlet is rolled. The baffle extends the entire length. I don't think the tips would be worth much after trying to remove the guts!

Agreed. Non-resonator tips are on order.

I had my new tips installed today. Major difference in the exhaust sound. Not too loud but much more apparent than the factory tips which are now up in the attic with the factory mufflers and the factory speakers and the factory oil pressure gauge....!

Next, the tuner!

Thanks, Wes! Great product!

Anyone have any detail on doing the installation? Are you welding or clamping the new tips on? Can you remove the old tips so they could be reinstalled if necessary?

In the stock exhaust tips thread Sarge suggested the stock tips could be "cleaned out"

..Sarge, feel free to jump in here!

I thought I had seen that but then I figured I would go with the already made ones and not risk damaging the originals.

You'll get to hear them in a few weeks.

I also had the tips extended out beyond the bumper about an inch so that the 'Megs" now shows clearly. I llike it!

I beleive removing the "baffles (which is just pipe" would require more labor than what its worth vs buying the "Clean" tips....Just my $.02

Wes, 'clean' as in 'lobodomy'?
