I have a 2003 with 55k miles almost, it is my DD and I have the following mods -

JLT CAI
Tune by Dennis R
header back one off magnaflow exhuast (car was a prototype for them)
410's + new posi
metco rear control arms

and a few more cosmetic and stereo upgrades, but on to my question.

I am looking to replace the plugs, wires, and anything else performance related. I only run synthetic oil through it, and it is changed every 3000 miles or less. Car runs great, but sometimes it takes an extra few cranks to start it, i figured it would help to do a hareware tune up.

any suggestions for wires, plugs, etc?

this is a DD and N/A and will stay that way... thanks in advance.

First.... the MM doesn't use wires. Its uses COPs (Coil On Plug).

Since you are NA go with NGK TR6 plugs (search for the proper torque, procedure, etc.), clean and re-oil the airfilter (don't use too much oil), clean the MAF (use ONLY MAF cleaner), check the PCV (if it rattles it's OK). Check all belts, hoses and fluids. I'd run some Seafoam thru the intake (again search for the procedure).

At every oil change (5k) I also drain the tranny pan (mine has extra capacity and a drain plug) and refill as necessary.

I do this once a year, every other year I change the belts and hoses and flush the cooling system, and replace the rearend fluid.

If you have a DR tune you should have one stage colder plugs (NGK TR6) and a 180 degree thermostat anyways. SummitRacing.com sells the Granatelli MotorSports coil plug connectors which are like the spark plug wires and only need to be changed once. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRN-28-1705S/

Also would be a good idea to change the fuel filter if you haven't had it done already.

If the battery is stock ~ 5 years old now - replace it.

I have a DR tune also. It will kill the platinum plugs. I purchased some Motorcraft copper plugs 1 colder range lower from Rock Auto. They were like $1.55 each. You can find the part number in a earlier thread of mine. The part only comes up in a search if you lokk for the specific number, Originally it was a suggested replacement 3 years ago by rock auto. I am going to be replacing them again soon at my 100,000 mile service.

No idea how you guys are "killing" stock plugs with just a tune, that sounds really suspect, I have been tuned for almost 20k miles and am still running stock plugs @40k miles. Also I have my stock 2002 dated battery and I am not replacing it until it dies. If it has lasted this long, with lots and lots of starting the car only for 30 seconds to move it and shutting it off, it must be well made, I bet this battery lasts 10 years from its manufacture date.

The B.S. that comes out to sell ignition components is amazing!

re-Granatelli:

"These kits increase power to the spark plug by up to 25 percent over stock, and their high-temperature silicone boots resist temperatures up to 500 degrees F. They're ideal for use with aftermarket headers and turbocharger systems, and installation is as easy as changing the factory units.

Right on! Just think, you must need more "power" to your plugs, right? More "power" is good, right? Those silicone boots will resist header burns!...and all those turbos will work better too!

re-WEAPON X True Coil-on-Plug:

"...gained anywhere from 25 to 80 rwhp using them but many customers have reported fuel mileage increases as much as 3 miles to the gallon meaning this is an investment that can pay for itself in months"

Oh, if Ford only knew they could gain 25 to 80 rear wheel horsepower with better design coils! And 3 mpg, too!

RIGHT ON! RIGHT ON!

I'm going to tell Obama...he will make everyone use Granatelli & WEAPON X products!

And save the planet, too!!!
