View Full Version : Maintaining discussions in a professional manner or is every thread a shoutbox?

Does anyone else find the significant sidetracking of threads by the sites most recent class clowns starting to become a bit annoying?
Just wondering....
I used to avoid the little nonsense threads between the cliques of class clowns and their funny, provacative, and occationally questionable comments.
But now their fun has leached into nearly every discussion presented within forum.

Sorry... I try to keep them in the thread that is specially designed for us... I can't control the other shiny kiddos though!

+1. It used to be that I could ignore threads either by title, or user. But now, the 'noise' has severely ramped up and I find it difficult to concentrate on all things 'Marauder'. I don't like putting anyone on my 'ignore' list, but I might have to in order to reduce the useless chatter in otherwise useful threads.
Which would be a shame, because sometime I do get a kick out of the chatter.

Just wondering....Yes Barry.
It has become very annoying around here lately. It's not funny, informative nor the least bit entertaining.
I do appreciate the fact that you brought it up. I had thought about saying something a couple of times, but just never did. It usually takes a lot for me to get fed up, but I guess you beat me to it.
Thank you sir!

I also agree with the above sentiments. Thanks, Bear.
This is a Marauder enthusiast site. It's not FaceBook. It's not Twitter. It's not AIM. It's not a chatroom where you hang with your posse. If you want to have those kinds of discussions, go there.

It seems that some folks are under the impression that post count and penile size are somehow related. It is, but probably the opposite way they think.

Yes +1. It is rather annoying and much of the content is quite questionable.

Just to be clear here, what are we talking about?
For example:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55694&page=2
One of the responses to the thread related to MM attrition. I responded with a comment about an attrition model that Bluerauder posted a while back, and then Charlie and I had a little off topic banter about that.
Is this the kind of stuff that's being referred to? I enjoy jumping into a bunch of different topics, but don't want to be an irritant if it's being perceived that way...:o

I never had any intention of blocking those guys. They're funny...and occationally I secretly read through their shoutbox threads.

If you have to ask, you're obviously not part of the new trend.;)
Obviously once a thread has run its course we all have started goofing off on occation.
I still do it myself. I personally enjoy aggrivating people as well. I do however try to be selective as to where and when I choose to do it in respect to all of those in the playground.

I am an equal opportunity offender... it comes with being a firefighter... ball busting happens all day long and I got carried away with it on this whole site, so I will keep it to a minimum!

Barry, I have never disrespected you in the past and would never disrespect any other member. Infact you have shared valueable information with me about cameras and I took your advice on my prurchase for my "trip of a lifetime" last summer. I sincerely hope that I have not stepped on your toes.
Bob.

Ahh, I see. I thought you were talking in general, not specifics. I try to be as balanced as I know how. So, if I were to block one account because they spout "nonsense", I'd have to block all the accounts who spout "nonsense". "Nonsense" also being very subjective and therefore difficult to do. I don't read that thread because they were polite enough to keep the stuff I don't care about in one place.
I hope I've never ignored someone for having an opinion contrary to my own or because their manner offends me. And certainly not because of any situation where 'Larry' doesn't like 'Curly' and tries to antagonize them with the help of Moe. Such things are too unimportant to matter.
I don't believe anyone is totally worth ignoring. I think I've got a chuckle from everyone here at some point. And that's what life is about. :)
