My car came with the top of the trunk dynomated and my trunk won't stay open without me holding it so I want to know what's the best way to get the heavy crap off.

^^^ what he said. My MM had the same problem, but it stayed open i just had to open it all the way or nothing.

My problem was it would always come undone from the back part of the trunk lid. BTW the dynomat makes a huge difference in the MM. I had the entire floor, doors and trunk done.

New trunk lid?

My paint is very expensive I have the house of kolor chameleon so it would probably be like 300 just to paint the new trunk

What they said....its really hard to get off, is it the dynamat brand? What series if so? Original will not come off, extreme will but it is going to make a mess and more than likely you will have it all over your trunk, carpets etc. by the time your finished. I would go with fastblackmerc and try to adjust it.

Do not dry ice it, it will only make Dynamat hard and chip apart in small pieces. takes much longer this way.

If it is Extreme, use heat, not just a hair dryer but a heat gun. You can buy 1 at your local hardware store or Walmart.

Get a corner up with a plastic putty knife so you don't dig into the metal below.

Grab the corner with a pair of pliers, and pull it as fast as you can. Don't let the tar stretch you want it to yank right off (like a band-aid in your leg hair)

If you got blotches of residue, make a little ball of tar, use very little heat, start at the edge of the blotch, working your way in, blot the residue spot with the ball. Quickly, don't let it sit on it and try to get the glue to loosen up and work it as it does.

Clean the surface with something that won't damage your paint. Ask a local body shop what they use for tar and grease remover.

Take your time, you will cuss alot, and it will not be easy. Afterwards if your trunk rattles contact John in the Pops stereo forum for a can or 2 of Quiet Kote.

ding ding ding! You can adjust how much upward pressure your trunk has!!

I suspect it's too heavy and "won't stay open" Adjust the rods for more open pressure.

Geesh guys.

Wouldn't take too much weight to overload the torsion springs even at the max pressure adjustment. The Roush spoiler plus CAR Motorspots decklid liner require them to be maxed out or the trunk won't stay open. Wouldn't take much dynamat to exceed the weight of those 2 pieces.

You could be right. I don't know how heavy it is. It sounded like the OP just needed a bit more lift.

To adjust the torsen bars remove the spare tire, notice where the bars are. They are difficult to get out and go the width of the whole trunk. Notice that there are notches along where the ends of the bars go in. Move the one bar another hole away from its current setting - kind of like holes in a belt. Experiment for best results as you don't want it too hard or too soft.

Good Luck.

X 3 on the torsion rods/"springs" of the trunk.... dealer might also have stronger ones... we have done it (on other makes of vehicles) when spoiler is installed, springs/rods/bars whatever u wana call em get replace to support extra weight when opening and while open.

DO NO REPAINT!!!!!

Whatever you do do not repaint.... the shift in the color will be different and never look right. DO NOT REPAINT!!!!

Chamaleon paint is not my style, but even Ray Charles could see one that had been repainted.

Basically. I've heard that in order for the color shifting paint to be uniform, the entire car must be painted at the same time. Otherwise, if you just paint one part, it will change colors differently against adjoining panels... if you just paint you trunk, it may look gold, but your bumper and rear quarters may be green when viewed together at the same angle. basically, you'll be able to tell what has been painted separately. I have not sprayed this paint myself, but I've had enough trouble before with tri-coats and heavy pearls to make me not ever want to attempt to spray it.
