Ok, I was following my friends 01 v6 stang and saw that his brake lights werent working. Our guess is that its a fuse. Only thing is he doesnt have a manual and we didnt see any that were blown. Can anyone help with this. Thanks in advance.

Usually, if it's a fuse, the third brake light will still work cause it's on a different circut I believe. So if none of them are working, then I'd say go with Mike's suggestion.

Also, one other question. Do his turn signals work? If they do, that just further supports the theory of the switch.

Try checking the fuse panel in the drivers side under dash.
If the fuses are numbered check #33 and#41, they are both 15 amps and the diagram shows they are both for the brake lights.
Good luck.

MM03 i'll have him check those fuses, and yes the turn signals and four ways work. How would one go about checking the brake switch?

I wouldn't recomend testing the brake light switch unless you have a accurate wiring diagram and the proper test equipment.
Some of the wiring in and out of the switch can go to the comuter. If you don't do the testing properly you could cause other problems.

Yah, definately no splicing there. Have it taken in for a test, or buy a new one and just put it in.

I'll second what LincMercLover said, they are cheap to replace but can be a bit of a pain in tight quarters to r&i. Good luck.

Did your friend just do a brake job?

Sometimes when brakes are done, the pedal changes height. If the switch isn't adjusted, it will no longer contact the pedal when it's supposed to. It also has the effect of locking the cruise control out.

Just have a look see at the pedal. You'll see the switch, and make sure it's contacting the lever of the pedal.

The brake switch is located on the brake pedal assembly. It is held on with a fancy looking cotter pin. Your friend's car must be a stick or it wouldn't come out of park, either.

Just my .02 here

we changed his rotors and pads about two months ago, but durring the day light today he saw a sliced wire near the pedals, so last i heard he was going to splice them back and see if tht was it. Oh and its an automatic.
