Got my new factory rotors today and opened up the box and saw this on both of them. I talked to the shop owner next door and he could only think that's how they balance them maybe. I don't remember seeing them on my original factory rotors.

One is bigger than the other also.

Yes your factory rotors were balanced w/ mill cuts like that. Some rotors will have very small or non existent cuts, if they had such perfectly even material properties and distribution that they were already balanced. Other rotors will have very large cuts.

High quality aftermarket replacement rotors (like the Centric parts premium line that Rockauto carries) will also be mill balanced like this.

You wouldn't want a non balanced rotor, that would be just another rotating part that could cause a potential problem

Don't use ceramic pads with those! Or am I too late?

Why no ceramic pads?

Why no ceramic pads?
They are too hard/rough for the metal of the OEM rotor. Instead of the pad wearing at the right level it's suppose to it also puts more wear on the rotor.
