Ok im saving for a project. My current black 300a has got 112,xxx on the clock and she runs great she just deserves more. Ive got a few questions anout the navigator/lightning swap. 1st. wich motor? the lightning is blown and the Navi's got 4v heads. 2nd. what tranny? will my 4r70 take the 5.4? and numero uno will it bolt in? any motor mount issues? any trimming of the wiper valance? Any help would be apreciated.

One, you asked "one" twice... "1st, uno"

Secondly, navigator motor with a blower on top

third, its not a "drop in and done" kind of motor swap, infact im not 100% positive a 5.4 4v would fit in a panther, and a 2v swap has been done, in CVPI's...

4R70W i think will bolt up

I would just go with a FRPP Iron Big Bore then stroked to 5.3L to save you the headaches.

Just like Bono counts "uno dos tres catorce" (one two three fourteen)

If you have time and money you can do anything :D I agree it might be less of a pain in the long run to punch out a 4.6. If you plan on doing the swap yourself and can get a lightning motor for cheap then go for it, could be fun... 5.4 4v would be harder, but could also be fun.

If Zack was here he could tell you why the 5.4 wont work. :(

Dude, while you're waiting on your new engine to come in, check on my car for me. It's still in Belton, and I'm missing it.

But then he would be banned because he knows more than the moderators do. How dare he give good input to the community.

5.4 4v heads would barely fit between the wheel wells. Power Brake booster and reservoir would have to move. Heads and intake would be above the hood-line.

Why bother?

A decently built and blown 4.6 can make over 700CHP safely on pump gas (with the right tune, pump, injectors, etc)

I rather blow the money on a built 4.6 than trying any other crazy stuff.

C'mon Rich.... let's encourage this ....

If no one does it, everyone will think it's an easy swap still.
Now on the 02's and under it can be easier.

I'd suggest he starts with cutting the motor mount pillars down 1.5 inches and re-welding them in.
Then fab up a custom oil pan to clear the difference, maybe adding a drain back tube or two to the main pan area for the pickup tube....Or just us a GT dry sump system... that may work.

Then, a little fab work on the ac parts ... or just remove them all off the firewall and put a Vintage Air system in.

Then you could use a Hotrod style remote brake system, mounted on the frame.
Just some thoughts from a guy who has pondered this swap.

It's easy squeazy lemon peezy, Baby!!!

My next door neighbor is putting the finishing touches on a Chevy HHR. He just dropped a chevy 454 in it and converted it to rear wheel drive. The guy is in his 70s and still going strong. He's in his garage from 8AM to about 6PM every day. Back in the 60s and 70s he use to race Don Garlits and Richard Petty (when he was drag racin').

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but having money and time does apparently work.
