I found another MMC metal matrix driveshaft on ebay - this is NOT my ebay sale, I am only linking it here to help anyone who is looking for a very low cost alternative to $$ better than stock driveshafts. This MMC stock shaft retailed for over $1300 when it was still available from ford and it will push your safe driveshaft RPMS up by almost 1500 rpms, allowing you to travel at higher speeds and/or with higher than stock ratio gears, without having to worry about driveshaft critical speed being a limiting factor for driveline harshness and tailshaft bushing life.

I talked to the seller and they verified this shaft has the pink and green bands that indicate it is a P71 MMC tsb shaft. I am not vouching for this seller in any way or guaranteeing the accuracy of their information, but it looks to be legit.

Thanks

Steve

??? That's the exact drive shaft on my MM with the same color bands!!! Could this be why I don't have any vibration at 125+ ??? Cool!

pink/green/blue or pink/green is a metal matrix shaft. Pink/blue/orange is a stock MM or P71 aluminum shaft

If your MM has a pink/green or pink/green blue shaft, yes someone put a P71 MMC shaft on it and you have been "upgraded"

Cool! It's Pink/Green. Noticed it while blowing the cats. (no pun intended!):D It was used as a police cruiser. They may have upgraded it for safety sake.

I bet they did. Also the MMC shaft, like any other PI shaft, will have no vibration damper at the front yoke. So yours should be like that, not have a big vibration damper like the stock MM aluminum shaft.

Do you have a picture of the damper - I don't recall seeing anything like that.
I'm checking my DS too!

It looks like a smaller version of a harmonic balancer that you'd see on the crank snout of an engine. It has an inertia ring on an elastomer. You can't miss it, it's on the yoke near the u joint up front and its huge. Ford used them on many cars.

Edit here is what the damper yoke looks like

If you don't have this, someone changed your shaft. Plain aluminum P71 shafts (orange stripe in conjunction w/ other colors) would not have this damper either, so no damper does not automaticall mean MMC shaft.

Good 411!
Now I need to crawl my old BFA underneath the car and see what I can see.

For some reason I can't see the picture.
